I'm new so I'm sure all you guys have already thought (and acquired) a razor from your birth year.

Mine is 1975...any suggestions on what I can look for? I'm also looking for an OC...was one made in 1975?

Keep an eye on E-bay. You can also post in the WTB section here in the den. A little patience and you'll find what your looking for.

According to what I've read on another forum on US Gillette dating code info in 1975 The 3 piece Tech, Black Handle Super Speed and Black Handle Super Adjustable were still being made.... Also the Trac2's had just come out in 1971. Sometimes you can still find them on ebay also. Unfortunately I got mine in 1977 when I was 22, but I have no idea how to date them...:) Hope this helps you some..:)

:signs011: you will want to look for a razor with the date code of T and then number will be 1-4 which coordinate with the quarter the razor was made. some years are easier to find then others. My birth year is 1985 which is an F in gillette date code. finding one that my year and quarter is taking some timetime.

here's a link that is helpful with date codes. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/US_Gillette_Dating_Information

Looks like you're getting some great advise...bplatoon laid out most your options....
So lets see....it doesn't look like a '75 Open Comb was in production...maybe a Merkur but I wouldn't know how to date them....the good news is Gillette's Super Adjustable is a great razor...The 3 piece Tech with a super sharp blade like a Feather is a great combination also...
And now for something completely different...but definitely :git:Is a Schick birth year...with Schick's you can narrow it down to like a 4 or 5 year period.....The Schick 'L' types were made from 1965 t0 1980....but in '75 they came with Platinum blades in a blister pack for the first time...Heres an excerpt from the Schick timeline page:
    1975
Schick Injector Razor Square black plastic handle with metal trim strips on side, and narrowed silver head. Yellow or green (later) blister pack. Platinum Blades.

Here's the link to their timelinehttp://www.safetyrazors.net/schick/schicktech.htm: ...here you can see what the 'L's look like....If you could get an 'L' in a blister pack with platinum blades not platinum plus...you've narrowed it down to between 1975 -85...Of course the razor is exactly the same as all 'L's so for me, any 'L' would be perfectly exceptable as your birth year Schick...and the good news is thats a great razor too!!

So it looks like you have a few very nice options there....congratulations...let us know what you're thinking...

Yeah, as was mentioned above, dont forget to try for the quarter of the year in which you were born. Makes it more of a challenge, but also more satisfactory once found.

Thanks fellas. I'm bummed about the OC not being in production in '75, but I'll definitely read up on the Gillette SA and Tech.

Hey you know...I believe both you cats could find a birth year Slim Twist or Knack....Those are highly underated and actually desirable, as they give great shaves and you can twist the TTO knob and open & close the doors with the same hand you hold the razor with, while loading the blade with
the other hand...very slick and convenient...

Just saw a Knack at a local shop...$20 a good price? Non-negotiable, I always want SOME wiggle room or feel i'm getting screwed.

I'm also another 75 baby here. Great thread i will keep eye out for one of these

  13. Just saw my birth-year razor, a Gillette TTO Tech, new-in-the-box unopened C-1 (first quarter 1957) on That Well-Known-Auction site... Alas, current bid is $51 with 12 bids; I know that one will be a drag race to the finish with an off-the-charts price--not even gonna get my hopes up...:sad024:

    Good luck North Coast!
It'll eventually come around. I waited impatiently for my T4 psycho.. Probably paid more than I can get for it, but it is NOS with the key.
