I have become a fan of vintage soaps over the pass few months. I acquired a few different vintage soaps through flea markets, yard sales, and etc. I haven't found any Colgate yet. I have seen Colgate for sale in a few places online. I just wondered if someone has used this stuff. Wanted to know if it is a good performer? What is the scent like? I like the EU Palmolive is the scent similar?

My vintage colgate has a bar code on the box. It's awful. ....;..........Maybe older is better ? but what I've got stinks.

Steer clear of it. I have it and hate it. I think modern Williams is even better than this stuff.

The Colgate Barber Soaps comes in 1lb rolls and can be found on ebay periodically , I like this Colgate the best, nice , without scent though because of age. The Colgate Mug soap from the 50's ? is much liked by wetshavers it has a distinctive old time box, good soap , no scent. The later versions of Colgate until its discontiuation in the 80's ? some wetshavers don't like, some don't have a problem with. There is one version with a bicentennnial brush giveaway dating it to 1976 that I tried that was very good.

Overall vintage Colgate is nice soap only issue has been the lack of scent only thing one smells is the tallow I think.

Thanks guys. I have never bought any soap on ebay. The soap Ive found around where I live usually has a faint scent still in it. I guess the only good quality of most day being 95% humidity. So Im guessing Colgate is pretty much like William the older the better.

There's a long thread over on Badger & Blade discussing vintage Colgate Soap.

I have Colgate Barber, Cup and Mug soaps, the Mug version is the newest. I like the Mug, but the Cup and Barbers versions, which are probably the same, is better. They have basically a very light, soap smell, which is probably what they had when brand new.

That sounds like the Mug soap I have tried. I'm not much of a fan of the stuff either.

I haven't tried any of the older formulations.

The old Colgate Barber Soap in the one pound roll is fantastic. I was lucky to score one from ebay a few years ago. Really a great lather. The latest version before it went out of production is usable but not in the same league as the vintage stuff.
