1. Greetings!
I just received my new Omega Pure Bristle brush, my first boar, and I wanted to proceed and clean it with Dawn etc., but instead of the boar reek I expected when taking it out of the box, the brush has a pleasant smell to it. Is this normal? Also, one or two of the bristles of the outer layer are broken. Is that ok?
Thanks in advance for your wisdom!
  2. My Omega Pure Badger didn't have much stink either. I really like that brush. I think it's shed maybe 2 hairs ever. My next one will probably be an Omega Boar.
  3. I didn't really have funky pig smell troubles with the semogue. From what I heard it should have reeked but it wasn't all that bad. Maybe just a little smell. But at my work place we have a big polishing brush made of pig bristle , that we use for acrylic polishing, and that one smells like a dead pig when scalded with hot water to take the bristles off :D
  4. Very interesting! Since the brush smells rather pleasant actually, I was worried whether I might have received a used brush :O
  5. My Omega 49 stink lasted for 4 straight weeks of use.
My Omega 10098 stink lasted for 2 weeks of use.
My Omega 11574 didn't stink at all.

    Go figure.

Love all three, by the way.

  6. Whoa, that's quite some latitude, Steve! Comforting, though. Can't wait to use the boar tomorrow then :D
  7. I noticed my omega 80005 boar brush didn't smell bad. There was a scent but it wasn't horrible.
  8. My Omega 81052 has never stank of anything. It has been shedding bits of hair every time I have used it, which is only about five or six times now.
  9. I purchased a Semogue 610 which took a few weeks to defunk.
I liked the brush so much I bought a second. The second brush did require any defunking.
  10. And who said we didn't smell like Roses in the 1st place????

  11. Sounds good to me!

Maybe when it gets wet it'll start to smell like a "normal" new brush "should." Either way I'd recommend doing several break-in lathers to soften up the bristles and start splitting the tips, and that will help to de-funk the brush. Another thing I'll do is take some really fragrant soap or cream, lather it up generously, and let it sit overnight. Rinse in the morning and let it air-dry. Repeat if necessary.
  12. Thanks! That's what I am doing with Proraso green :D
  13. 20012 no smell
    10098 just a little bit
    10019 smelled a lot

All of these where received in the last week as a gift from a guy who bought a straight from me, never used Omega brushes before (Very happy with there performance btw).
I just did like with all new or used brushes, clean them with dishwasher soap, lathered them and left the soap overnight in the brushes, smell was gone.
  14. Yep, me too :D Needs breaking-in now :O
  15. My whipped dog silver tip doesn't stink at all I was surprised
  16. Never had any smell issues with my badger brushes, just the boars.
  17. All my brushes are old enough that I don't remember how long the stink lasted.
  18. My 10065 didn't smell at all.
  19. My Omega boar brush did not have any unpleasant smell, even when new. The same is true for my Dovo badger brush.
  20. You are lucky, my first badger reeked!
