My wife and I recently sold nearly everything we owned at public auction. All I can say is what a relief to be rid of so much stuff. After a while it seems like the stuff owns you. With ownership there comes responsibility and responsibility has a weight to bear. I feel like many hundreds of pounds of weight have been lifted from my shoulders.

Right now we are getting the big four bedroom house ready for sale and will be looking to move into a one bedroom apartment. The smaller space will force us to be more careful about adding more stuff.

That definately is a huge change of lifestyle! If you dont mind me asking and i will totaly understand if you do mind, im just curious as to what would make you want/have to undergo such a drastic change in your life? It just seems so different that it has perked my curiousity. Again i understand if this is just too personal to get into.

The weight of responsibility gets heavy and I was tired of carrying the load. Also, we are planning on relocating and now we can get everything in our van and a U-haul trailer. My neighbor was telling me about her two storage units full of stuff and I had to wonder, "why?" Why store a few thousand dollars worth of stuff and pay rent to do it when you can just sell it before it rots or is eaten by mice. Now I don't have much to worry about.

When our house and our commercial building sell, we will be debt free, own our cottage free & clear and be able to start over with little or no mortgage when we quit renting and settle down again.

Ahh...thanks for the insight. I just seemed strange to me. Probably because i am on the other end of th spectrum. Me and my wife were married on Sept 22 and we are working hard on building up things for our home.

Would love to do this myself. I've got plans to head back to the home country in a couple years. Wish the housing market was good, as I could really use to get out of this 2300 sf home. It's much to big for me and costs me way too much money every month. It's incredible how much stuff gets built up over the years and I'm finding things that I forgot I owned. Has me wishing the ex had taken more when she left... lol. Anyways, good luck to you Dennis and I hope all goes well for you.

Some commedian once said that a house is a place to put all your stuff. In my house its my son that has all the stuff, he is three and has toys every where. Can't walk about the house without stumbling on his torys.
