Hello, my name is BigT and I'm an addict too. Conrats Raven 312. It will only get better and better. Try adding a little shave cream to your VDH soap, it will give you a super lather.
If you want a short bowl this is what I use sometimes. I bought it at my local DAV thrift store for a dollar. Works great!
That's almost exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to stop tomorrow after work and find something.
Congrats. Once you find that perfect mix of water/soap/blade angle/blade choice/no pressure; your shaves will come out fantastic. Also, if you get some irritation; you could pick up some witch hazel. It's really good at clearing up irritation.
Turns out I have a couple of bowls I can use: one, I stole from my parrot (it's an extra) and the other is a small ceramic covered iron pot that we don't use. The pot may be too large (it's 5" in circumference as opposed to 4 on the smaller one), but I won't know until I work with it. Both of them hold heat pretty well. EDIT: Figured it out pretty fast! I can make good lather in both but the green one with its rough inner bottom whips it out much faster and thicker.
Hi Raven312. I found some decorative bowls around the house. They are both in an Asian theme. One is for my Williams Mug Shaving Soap ($1.50 at the local pharmacy) and the other is for mixing up my Proraso shaving cream (when I want a more luxurious shave). Sorry the pictures don't have a flash. My camera was running low on batteries and wouldn't flash.
Glenn, that first bowl looks perfect for whipping up a great lather! I'd found a bowl that's great (has ridges in the bottom and sides) except it's too shallow and the lather spills up around the rim. Like you, I'm using that one to hold soap and using a small pot to make lather. That was great until I went to the threads about shuttles.. LOL I now have one on the way. This place will give you a lot of ideas and you'll spend a lot of money if you're not careful (I'm not! LOL).
