I found a pretty decent Fat Handle Tech for $12 and a Bakelite Tech for $16. The only thing that's stopping me is the shipping. I don't feel like paying $12 for shipping, so I guess the RAD has been fought off... for now. Any cases of RAD that have been affecting you lately?
I have bidded on three in the last 24hrs. 1946 contract ball tech 1950 made in England ball tech 1951 black tip super speed. Really want the super speed even though I already have a late 1940's, 1958 flare tip, and a 1973 black handle flare tip. Guess it's the idea that it was made differently due to material shortages during the Korean war.
I have it bad, real bad.... my work takes me all over southeast texas to many small towns and major cities. I drive about 300 miles a day and usually make it a point to hit the local antique shops during lunch or at the end of the day or between meetings and appointments. Needless to say, I have acquired many goodies in my travels. The bay gets my attention as well, especially now with my new found love of slants and my long standing admiration of things vintage, rare, and uncommon...
I've had it since I started. I really just wanted to try a bunch of different razors to see what works best for me. I justified it to myself by saying I could sell off the ones I don't really like later but I haven't been able to part with many yet. I found myself bidding on a Slim the other day just because I thought I'd be able to get it cheap. Somebody sniped it though and got it for a little more than my max bid. I did finally get a Super Adjustable. I've been bidding on those for a while but the prices are staying pretty high on them. Got this one in an auction that closed fairly late on a weekday so I guess not too many snipers out there at that time. Can't wait 'til it gets here in the next day or two.
Notice Ebay prices are on the raise lately. I picked up a fairly nice slim for $15 back in November and that was the averaging price. Even ball techs and super speeds are going above the $10 mark now. Hopefully the trendy hipsters will think DE razors are not so cool soon and the prices will start to go back down for us that really enjoying collecting and using the razors.
Bird Lives description in the cologne thread convinced me to try Pour Un Homme de Caron. I found a seller on eBay that had a 4.25 oz bottle for $29.10 with free shipping, he started with 27 and only had 3 left. It was the best price I found with a quick web search.
My RAD is killing my marriage LOL.... Just got a Twinplex autostrop and an Allegro Model L so have been on the hunt for carbon DE blades! Have 200 coming next week!
I just go with it now and stopped fighting the A.D.'s a long long time ago.... This morning I saw shaveabuck has the Cadet TP-02S two tone(pewter/chrome) 3 piece razor on clearance for $15 so about an $8 savings. Understand that I have at least 8 other(Durham Duplex,Fat Handle Tech,Parker,Sabi T2,two Greistshaving handles ss GS1 & brass "NEW" and two Weber handles a BullDog and Wave in ss) handles for my current favorite shave head(EJ89). I also already have a Cadet open comb head which is the shavehead that comes on the TP-02S and it isn't one of my favorites heads ..BUT hey the RAZOR is on clearance!!! Worse while I was there buying something I "ABSOUTELY" don't need. I got two After Shaves(Superior 70 and Figaro) and a tuck of Ladas, for a total of $34 and all I wanted was to save $8 on the Cadet because its on clearance... I think I have the sickness....
I don't know why I looked at ebay last night but I saw a short-handle super adjustable which was the next hole in my vintage Gillette collection I was looking to fill. What's more, it was my birthday code. I paid way more than I should have for it. So, you're not the only one who's got the sickness.
Remember on our death beds, it won't be the things we did that we regret but, rather the things we didn't do... Enjoy your new razor..... I have one of those by the way, a really nice razor!!! I prefer it to the long handle...
