I'm quite an old fashioned kind of person even though I'm still in my twenties (just). I really like quality things that work.
I also like pocket watches, using a fountain pen, photography (I prefer metal film SLRs rather than plastic fantastic digital cameras), I like dinghy sailing, woodburning stoves, camping and attending vintage shows. Could it be that I use a DE razor because I'm that kind of person, or are there DE users out there that like digital watches, cameras, storage radiators, bic biros and powerboats?

You don't need to be old fasion to shave with a double edge. In other aspects of my life I am on the bleeding edge of technology. Of course I get paid to be geeky. I am sitting here with a 160gb HD at my left hand, which was bleeding edge a week ago. What is bleeding edge tends to change hourly if that long. Still use a watch with a dial rather than a digital one, haven't managed to get into fountain pens yet, I tend to work with ball points. My photography is all digital 4gb CF Card (last time I got 450 pictures without reloading, you try to do that with your SLR), its not plastic. My shows tend to be all on DVD these days. Tend not to like radiators, had a bad experience with them as undergraduate, things tended to be real loud and terrible at heating.

You don't need to be old school to go ols school with your shaving, I am pretty much modern, but like old school shaving.

It seems that a lot of gentlemen who practice wet shaving have a lot of similar interests. More can be found in the AD (Acquisition Disorder Thread)

Welcome to the forum Flatfish if I haven't already welcomed you. I used to have a powerboat 17' 25th Anniversary Glastron Bowrider but when I got more into horses, I sold the boat. One major hobby expense was enough.

[FONT=&quot]I don't consider myself old fashioned but I really enjoy shaving with a DE. I'm sitting here in front of two Dual Screen monitors, use a blackberry to check email and monitor servers, and like my DVR at home.

I also like using the best tools for the job.

Wet shaving with a DE or straight razor is the best you can expect to get in the shaving world. So while others consider it old fashion because of marketing hype, I consider it to be bleeding edge technology (no pun intended, of course, YMMV ;))

Looking at the replies I think a persons other interests don't have any effect on what they use to shave with. DE razor users just want a decent cost effective shave. And they are quite cool.
Thank you for all being so welcoming.
I take back one point. I am slowly coming round to digital photography as prints are so much cheaper, more convenient and they are starting to get better than 35mm film. I just dislike having every electronic device ever invented crammed into the submenus of even the cheapest point and shoots. Just give me aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
    Thanks everyone.

    Magnesium alloy DSLRs exist.

You want a Leica M8. On the other hand, you don’t want a Leica M8.

If you like photography, there’s a dedicated thread here. And welcome !

Leica M8 is very nice. My favourite is the MP. Can't afford either. I also like the Voigtlander Bessa R2M. I will have to have a look at the photography page.

I tend to think wet shavers are pragmatic, rather than old fashioned or modern. I don't own a digital watch, I don't even own a quartz watch. I fly fish with a cane rod, I hunt with a flintlock rifle, but I don't drive a horse and wagon when I go fishing or hunting. You can bet I'm going to use a chain saw rather than a two man buck saw to cut trees and my house is air conditioned. Obviously I know how to use a computer, and I long ago did away with my typewriter. Some of the older, often more fussy, ways of doing something can be fun, others are just inefficient given advances in design and technology (except razors, of course). :D

Good news!! I posted out of the "Latherbater" category with this post.

Personally I am a modern tech sort of person. The reason I took up wet shaving is the prices of those cartridge razors were just so astronomical I couldn't see myself paying $3.50 per blade. Fortunately with west shaving I don't pay anywhere near that. Other than that I typically like high tech, typically walk around with 160gb HD in my pocket, now hows that for high tech.

I know what you mean. I consider myself pretty modern for being 21. I also consider myself more "old fashioned" or "pragmatic" for being 21 too. Number one, I wet shave. 99% of people my age have no idea what that even means. I've also never owned an automatic car. Driving manual is so much better. I enjoy camping/backpacking and the outdoors. I probably will never switch to Vista.

You are starting off well. When I was 21 I was still with those terrible electric razors still thinking that they were the only way to get a great shave.
