I went back to my 1880s P.H. Hahn 5/8. It was one of my first attempts at using a self honed straight razor and it did not pan out the first time. This time around, after returning to the lapping film I had a much better result. I used my awesome superlather of PdP and eShave White Tea to give myself the best possible lather and went to town. A three pass wtg/atg/xtg shave followed by a cold water rinse resulted in a DFS with some mild irritation on my neck and lip. I used a blue gel ice pack to bring down the irritation. I still need to work on both my shaving and honing techniques, but it's good to know that I can sharpen a razor well enough to shave with. The scent from my combo is so amazing that I would love to have a cologne with the same scent. Pre: Hot shower and warm water splash Razor: P.H. Hahn 5/8 Brush: #6 Turkish Horsehair Soap: Superlather of Pre De Provence and eShave White Tea Post: Cold water rinse followed by a brief application of a gel ice pack

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 Pre: hot shower, Lush Dirty shower gel Brush: Simpson Case, Best Cream: TOBS Grapefruit Razor: '71 Gillette Superadjustable (2 passes on 2) Blade: Shark (1) Post: Pinaud's Bay Rum, Body Shop Maca Root ASB Great TOBS lather today, adding more water than I do with Bigelow works pretty well for me. Still using the load/hydrate method with good results. The Shark blade seemed smooth and sharp, with no wax left on the blade from the packaging, and I think I've found another blade to add to the list of "possibles." I did just succumb to impulse buying, and ordered some Bolzano and Supermax Sunrise blades, along with a tube of Speick cream.
Razzorock OC with a Bic blade loaded (1) Tabac soap HJM fine badger Old spice original Nice 3 pass shave, I haven't cracked out the Tabac in some time, but that will have to change. I've neglected my soaps lately in favor of creams, but that comes and goes with the wind. This was my first shave with a Bic blade, and it performed well on the first shave, but we'll see how it goes on
Nice shave without any hurry that evening... 4/8 Rebell from herzi Vie-Long horsehair brush Ceramic bowl Gada Original SC (thanks, Jeff!) Fitjar Miklagard ASC Just wonder how "international" my shaves are. German razor, Lebanon cream, Chinese bowl, Norwegian AS cream... That's a small world!

"Back to the Future" shave... Razor: Merkur 34c HD Blade: Personna Red Soap: Tabac Brush: Ever-Ready resto Two pass joy Cold water rinse Alum block Cold water rinse Nivea PSB Started in the DE world almost five years ago with this razor, blade and soap. Still love them!
How old's that alum block? I can't seem to keep from dropping them before they get anywhere near that small.
This one is about six months old....bought two of them from the bay for less than $10 shipped....alum is alum is alum...despite what some may say. I keep one at home and have one in my dopp kit.
Yeah, I started using them as a deodorant too. You can buy a 6 oz block for a little over $3, and it's the same alum sold as a shave product. It doesn't have a scent, just kills bacteria. http://www.drvita.com/p-9216-lafes-...l-stone-fragrance-free-6-oz.aspx?SKU=LAF11863
Tabac Tuesday evening shave. I didn't feel like using Tabac. In honour of bowl week I dusted off my scuttle, which normally serves as an ornament. Bowl: Classic Edge scuttle Razor: Merkur slant Blade: Feather Pre: Copious amounts of Proraso white Lather: Speick soap + Real Shave Co. Double Concentrated + a drop of glycerine Brush: Grosvenor Aftershave: Gillette Cool Wave The scuttle works really well. Three passes of hot lather. Which is a problem for me because I like cold lather. Hot feels good going on, but I get no feedback from the razor and everything feels sticky and cloying. I gave it a try today, because its been a while. The result is raw cheeks and a red neck. I perked up with a cold water rinse and the Gillette aftershave, though. That aftershave is quickly becoming my favourite.
Loving this too, just wish it had some cooling (menthol) Do you think adding some Crystals would ruin its great scent?
First straight razor shave in a couple of months. Prep: hot shower, TBS Tea Tree Face Wash, Alba Botanical Scrub. Brush: TGN Grade A. Razor/s: W&B 4/8" straight. Gillette Aluminum Ball End Tech to clean up. Blade: Polsiver SI. Cream: Palmolive Menthol. Post: cold water rinse, Thayer's WH Lavender, Barbon AS, Axe Cooling AS Gel. I feel like this straight shave went a lot better. I did two passes WTG and only had a couple of areas I couldn't get. I loved how my face felt afterwards though. I'll get more practice in with the straight and see if I can't get proficient with it.
