Well I just got back from the local flea market. I picked up a 1967 M4 Slim for $8. No brassing and it cleaned up nice. So now I have a shaver to go with my looker. Amazing how the original packaging and NOS condition bumps up the price. The guy at the flea market had some interesting razors. There was an open comb one piece tto that had no doors! The head of the razor twisted from horizontal to vertical on its edge and you pass the DE blade over the head into place and ttc (and the head seats back on top of the blade). I forget the manufacture of the razor stared with a "B" or "D". It had a broken tooth on one of the combs so I just let it be. If anyone knows what it was, let me know. I would have bought it but for the broken comb tooth.
Sounds like a Segal Razor, They are pretty good shavers but you have to alter a standard DE blade to shave with them.
Bingo! Nice pull. A Segal Unitary Razor was what it was. The one I saw was nickle plated with no box or blades. Thanks for the info.
I bought one of those in the late 80s at an antique store. Used it for several years without proper training. Evidently, I threw it out in the 90s. Now, I'd give just about anything to have it back.
I just happened to pick one these up yesterday too. You mentioned you have to alter the blades. How do you do that. Does anyone know where to get any blades for it. Can't wait to shine it up.
Blades have been out of production for a long time. Try this link for Info: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/pif-a-free-shaeffer-blade-for-your-segal.31127/#post-558172
I remembered this thread, Evidently there is more NOS out there! Just won this one on the bay. Not as nearly as nice but the price reflected that. I'll take pictures when it arrives.
The vendor seems like an antique dealer, no pictures get a clear enough shot and I haven't bothered asking. I'm guessing based on the black backing it's a later model. Still anxious though, first NOS buy aside from a Merkur 12c.
