My new shavette just arrived. However, I have suffered a few nasty cuts on the face when I first attempt to use it. The blade (half DE) is softer as compared to the stiff and rigid hairshaper blade. All I have to say is that I used a bit too much pressure as I could hardly feed the blade on my face and nicked myself several times. Therefore, let this be a lesson to the others who intend to use a DE shavette. Be extra careful as you will hardly feel the soft blade at all!
Not only that, but if using a shavette as a gateway drug to regular straights, you will have to modify your technique even further!
They can be a hazard From the first time I started shaving with a shavette I nicked myself 2 times and that was the statistic for about 6-7 months and then I got 2 cuts one pretty deep and other so-so in a week. NEVER let your guard down Just kidding, those were my fault, just keep it up the technique will come
Those DE blade shavettes have to be the most aggressive razor system there is. But, as ML says, just give it time and you'll get used to it. Also there was a vid lately posted by one of us, where the fellow cited a problem of blade misalignment in the shavettes with a push type blade loading system. If your using that one, the remedy is to sort of tap the blade gently with a small cardboard box in order to even out the situation after the blade is loaded. I tried a toilet paper cardboard thingy and it seemed to work wonders. As far as I know, the alignment issue only applies to the push type...
