Nothing to write home to Mom about yet; but I will be pulling the trigger on a Feather straight Japanese-style or clone in the near future--we can have this discussion again after that; no doubt I'll have some skin and sangre in the game by then...
Ok my worst so far has been under my jaw bone or beneath my chin. I believe you folks called it an oozer. Happened this morning. Likely just sloppy technique. Had to blot to stop the bleeding then used the pencil. Experience is the best teacher but normally involves some pain. Jeff
My biggest withdrawal from the shaving blood bank came from the shavette. I've since sorted it out, but those first few shaves needed the 911 on speed dial...
Worst cut was about five or six years ago. I had just started to shave under one of my sideburns when from nowhere my cat jumped up onto the sink causing me to jerk. I didn't cut my face, I cut my eyebrow. lol It took two stitches and of course the doctor had to shave off the eyebrow before he started. Boy did I look stupid for about two months.
Was "sweeping" some excess lather onto my cheek for a touch up and drug the razor the wrong way. Left a perfect Injector sized gash on my cheek. Still have a little scar! and then there was the "Great Weeper Incident of 2013" Don't even get me started.
One of our members dropped his razor (safety razor BTW) rather than let it hit the floor he caught it...just the wrong way. It required stitches and a visit to the ER. He posted up pictures too. Hopefully someone with more free time than me will find the thread and post a link.
I tried to use a cheap shavette that uses 1/2 a DE blade. First and last attempt left a small scar on my write cheek from when I went sideways. Very efficient at cutting and letting blood. I have allot of respect for people use straights especially shavette.
1. Dropped my Merkur 1904 in the shower. Bounced around like Kangaroo T**TT***. Cut my achilles tendon, several toes and other parts of both feet. 2. Just used my 1924 and my face has more holes that Bonnie and Clyde's car. Total bloodbath there. I think I lost a pint. That's gone for good. I have two SE's that I love and I'm good.
I've nothing as dramatic as some stories told so far in this thread, but I do recall a particularly nasty result from a number of years ago when I was first learning to wet-shave. While carefully shaving my upper lip near my nose, the razor 'tickled' enough to make me react with an incredible sneeze. This wasnt one of those, "Ah...ah......ah.....ah-choo!" sneezes—no, this was a sudden, unexpected, I-cant-stop-it sneeze with a big enough head jerk to bounce my face off my razor. This resulted in a painful, deep horizontal slice between my nostrils that stung & bled like a red river. No stitches, but I had to wear a silly-looking band aid for the longest time. After that incident, I grew a mustache which I had for years.
Mine was with my first slant razor, it gashed me as i did a against the grain stroke...it took weeks for the scar to disappear.
I was shaving along my left cheek when I had an unannounced sneeze. The blade went in to my cheek deeply enough that I had to lift to pull it away from my face, resulting in a blade-length slice along my left cheek that just kept oozing blood. Had a scar for a few years.
