Picked up four Gillette vintage razors from an estate sale. As far as I can tell from online sources, I got an I-3 1963 Slim Adjustable, a G-2 1961 Flare Tip Super Speed, a Z-4 1954 Flare Tip Super Speed, and a 1947-1954 Super Speed. All of them are in great condition and cleaned up really nice. I was just telling my son-in-law on Sunday about wet-shaving and he is really interested and even put safety razor and gear on his birthday list. So, I plan on giving him one of these and a brush, cream, and some blades to get him started. I think I am going to give him one of the Flare Tip Super Speeds since they are identical and I read they are a great razor for beginners. I think I am going to keep the Slim for me to replace my cheap Concord starter razor. I may end up giving the other two to my sons for their birthdays later in the year. I guess I'll need to buy some more then! I'll try and upload some pics, but I am new to this forum and need to figure that out. My first attempt told me the files were too large so need to figure out how to downsize them.
Welcome to TSD! I have a feeling you're going to love the Slim, if public consensus means anything! The SS's are too small for my fat hands but I hear nothing but praises about them, so your son-in-law is in for a treat. Congrats on your great score! Stick around and join the fray.
Woot! Your new collection is awesome This is what I do for large pictures: 1. Upload the pic to www.postimage.org 2. Select the size you want ("message boards") 3. Copy the "direct link" from the results 4. Paste into TSD post in the format (w/o spaces): [ IMG ] link [/ IMG]
After cleaning and polishing. That is my maternal grandfather's razor strop BTW . Wish I had his razors
The Slim came with a case and it cleaned up fairly well too. The blade holder has three blades at least in it. Unfortunately, the paint on the back of the blade holder has rusted and crusted. But, it looks good on the front. Before and after cleanup shots.
Tried the new to me Slim this morning. I put it on setting 5. I got a good shave with it. I like the handle and the weight.
Welcome, nice to have you. Beautiful razors you have there. I have a Slim and just figured out what setting it needs to be on for me to have a great shave. I love it now that I have it dialed in.
