You should see how my 'problem child' (the VDH boar) is coming along!
I never thought that thang would ever break-in or soften up!

 

My first brush was the VDH boar, I had it broke in nicely then BIG clumps of hair with glue attached started falling out.

 

My First (Partial) Straight Razor Shave:

Pre: Mild scrub with Shea Moisture Facial Scrub, hot towel, lather, hot towel, Anthony Logistics Pre-Shave Oil
Soap: Pyrate Cove Bay Rhum & Lime (what a lather!)

Took the plunge and used a straight for the first time tonight. Did my right cheek with my right hand (dominant hand), then did my left cheek with my left hand, which was not as awkward as I'd expected. Only issue was, I couldn't always see the razor. This made me realize that learning with a French tip is an advantage. I only shaved with the grain, trying to listen to the razor and get a feel for when I was mowing hair, paying attention to my angle without concentrating onn it. I took it nice and slow but also felt comfortable. My challenge is stretching my skin with wet fingers and pre-shave oil. I shaved a little way under my chin on my right side because I felt comfortable doing so. I stopped there and pulled out the Injector to finish the job. I got two nicks; one was from the straight because I put the blade down horizontally (I knew better) and pulled away immediately. Wasn't sure I nicked it but I think I did. The other was with the Injector on my adam's apple. I think I mowed down an ingrown hair. I would definitely call it a success. I got a BBS out of it, but must admit that while my skin isn't highly irritated, I can feel it. Let's say it's a bit sensitive. The shea butter after feels very good and I'm sure it'll feel normal in the morning...

 

I didn't have as pleasant of a shave as I wanted.

Prep: hot shower, TBS Maca Root face wash.
Razor: '62 Gillette Slim.
Blade: Personna Med Prep.
Cream: TBS Maca Root.
Post: cold water rinse, Thayer's WH Lavender, Barbon AS.

I got a couple of weepers. One on my chin and the other on my neck above my Adam's apple. I sure do miss my brush. The WH and Barbon really saved things for me. My girlfriend thinks the Barbon makes me smell like an old man. Barbon is my favorite splash, so she'll have to deal with it.

 

If you have an Alum Block, rub the fingers of the stretching hand on the block. It will keep your fingers from slipping and give a lot of grip on wet skin.

 

I have to get one. I just have a pencil and it's very thin now. Time for it to go to the styptic pencil pile in the sky...

A shave of firsts.

This was a nice shave. The Macca Root sample was very nice., At first smell I liked it, at second smell I didn't, once lathered it was rather herbaceous or flowery in a light and non froofy way. I liked it. Very slick and lathered like a beast with the Vie Long.

The FatBoy on 5 was reminiscent of an Aristocrat in face feel. I really really liked the heft and hand feel. No weepers, which is a first for this week with DE's.

The Vie Long is a scritchy one. I like it!! Was my favorite brush until I finished the ER 200. Haven't used it in a week or so, I think I'll keep it going for a few days.

The EMJ pre shave face scrub is great, weird texture, but like the grit. Really cleans my face after windy day on the ZTR.


CLUBMAN!! That's all I have to say about that!

Although I noticed that the 7 AM is quite a bit duller, it still gave me a very good and smooth shave. The Gillette Menthol cream delivered its great lather and cooling sensation which the Axe Chilled gel and Floid Classic aftershave really intensified. Now, it's off to work. (dammit!)
