Why do you chose a Straight over a double Edge?

    Straight or DE

my reason is this....after having barbers do it and the result I was hooked, spent over 5 years looking for straights, my father used a DE so I grew up seeing that...now he uses a straight....Bill Ellis sent it to him......old dog new tricks...

Straights are cool, they force you to slow down in a world thats about convenience and speed...the routine seems to settle me down and honing a wee bit is very relaxing.

Not everyone can do it....and of late the makers we know have produce astounding work that we can appreciate and to a certain degree afford...

I guess I cant say enough good things...im hooked...everything has its place and so do razors...straights over everything..

For me it is the sense of accomplishment I get every morning. I know I have the best close, irritation free shave I can possibly get. Shaving with razors that are over 80 years old is also a factor. The use of a tool that was crafted by hand and meant to last a lifetime and then some is truly exciting. The quality of the shave is paramount. Nothing is closer in my opinion. The fact that I "get in the zone" every time I shave, it's like I'm in my own little world and nothing bothers me. I'm totally focus on the shave. The whole process gets me ready to face the day. Also I have a thing for classic things. I also collect and use fountain pens on a daily basis. I smoke pipes. I drink Stout and I make my own soaps. Old fashioned I guess but I'm happy that way.

I need to admit to my attraction about straight razors, I am still frightened of them. It's sort of that everyone that every one I know of his scared half to death of these things. I am sort of attracted to, first the "bad boy" factor. Everyone I know of thinks of these things as bad to the bone, the very same reason some women are attracted to the bank robbers. Another reason is the difficulty factor, sort of want to climb that mountain because its real real hard to climb. Want to scale the most difficult mountain that I can find. Some say confession is good for the soul.

I shave with a straight because I get a better, more comfortable shave with it than with an electric, disposable, cartridge, or DE razor.

It's not actually that hard to shave with a sufficiently sharp straight - men have done it for centuries, after all, and nearly all of them survived enough shaves to pass on their genes to the next and eventually the current generation. But it can take some practice to get and keep it "sufficiently sharp" with ease, though modern abrasive technology makes this much easier than in the past.

And besides, I get to shave with stuff like this (and like Raf says, there is a certain attraction to something that is ANTI-disposable in this oh-so-disposable world!):

That one stays at home. I'm picking a time when I'm not rushed and can truly appreciate it. Probably over Thanksgiving holidays. :drool

I shave with a straight razor for several reasons most of them already mentioned.
    I appriciate hand crafted items.
I enjoy restoring and maintaining my razors.
The old ways of doing things are usually better, and in this case it holds true.
I like saying I shave with a face axe.
I enjoy the looks people give you when you tell them, or they see you using a straight razor.
Electric and cartrige razors suck, and create uneeded waste.

I do use a DE razor for some areas I have trouble reaching with a straight, or if I am in a hurry. Some angles I am just not comfortable with no matter which hand I use.
