Managed some very nice meringue-like lather though, probably my best lather to-date. Switched it up with the Nivea scented ASB because I wanted a little more cooling effect for my face; relative to our norms, it's hotter than the Devil's porch here this week.

Friday afternoon, a gallery of favourites. Speick in the bowl, Silver Blue in the slant. Have a good weekend!
I did my usual prep, a three pass with the grain/against the grain/across the grain shave, and finished up with a cold water rinse and an application of some SAL Alum. The results were a BBS shave with zero nicks and zero irritation. I could have stopped after the second pass and had a damn fine shave, but after a couple of rough shaves I wanted my skin to start off with a clean slate, so I needed absolute smoothness. The Personna Platinum performed above expectations, the superlather felt great and left my face and neck feeling soothed, and the flare tip kept everything nice and neat. The alum took care of what tiny irritation began to rear its ugly head and left my skin silky smooth and redness free. I really enjoyed this shave. I liked it so much that I am considering sending my slightly beat up flare tip to The Razor Emporium to be replated in silver. It's a $55 job to replate what is, at best, a $20 razor, but it will add a few more decades to the life of the razor and give me a beautiful looking tool. I bought the razor for $2 at a junk shop, so paying another $55 to get a nice looking razor that will outlast me may just be worth it...especially considering how well it does its job. It lathered up very well from an almond size dollop, and was enough for three passes and touch-ups. It has a nice woodsy scent that does not overpower. Excellent shave.
Looks near identical to one of my shaves recently. Only difference is I've not tried the Arko. I'll have to add it to the soap/cream shopping queue....

Friday, July 5, 2013 Chubby 2, Fatboy, Sunrise (2), Castle Forbes Lavender cream and aftershave balm This cream is really different from what I've tried so far. One small dab of the brush into the tub created a wildly irresponsible amount of lather. I actually had to remove some from my face and add water, which caused the exploding lather to begin in earnest, and after 3 passes it seemed like things were just getting started. The aftershave is really nice, although it has no bite whatsoever. It's a very soothing, calming effect, and so far has dried well without leaving any oiliness. This is right before I started applying lather to face, before I added water. I like a yoghurt-like consistency, and the CF can certainly deliver that, but it's going to take a little more practice before I figure out how to deal with the cream's extreme concentrated-ness. In the name of science I might force myself to use this combo again tomorrow. **Update: A few hours later, and my face is starting to feel a little more moist than it does with the Speick or Pinaud's Bay Rum aftershaves. On a scale of 1 - 10 of oiliness reduction, with straight rubbing alcohol being a 10, I think the Speick and Pinaud's are probably 7 or 8, putting the CF at 6. The CF is still the "driest" balm I've used to date.
