I so agree, CO Bigelow is one of my favorites and produces such a slick lather! You asked awhile back whether I like Captain's Choice Bay Rum or Lime. Now that I've recently won a bottle of the lime and using it for awhile, I do believe it's my favorite Captain's Choice product, just a narrow margin better than the Bay Rum!
Toozday Something "New' day a. PRE: hot shower, Lucky Tiger Lemon wash, hot towel, homemade PSO b. RAZOR: Merkur 38c c. BLADE: Astra SP d. BRUSH: EverReady 100T e. SOAP: Mitchells Woof Fat, Pacific Shaving Cream & dab of glycerin; whipped up in a hot scuttle f. SHAVE: 3 passes (WTG, XTG, ATG) plus touch-up g. POST: Cold water rinse & dry; Osage Rub, Nivea balm First time using the Pacific Shaving cream, it helped produce (albeit in conjunction with the MWF) an extremely rich, creamy lather! I'll try it solo tomorrow for comparison. Darn Fine shave—nearly a BBS!

While I understand the rationale behind this, it would seem strange to me to deliberately settle for a shave that's not as close as I was getting with cartridges, now that I'm switching to DE.
My slant razors get me in just two passes (with the grain & against the grain) closer to BBS than any cartridge ever does (also two passes). In addition, DE shaves are a bit more "sustainable" for me. Nevertheless, I continue to use my Sensor and Dorco cartridge razors since they are fool-proof when i'm in a hurry.

I have razors that very seldom get me that BBS shave, and some that almost never fail BBS. I like the variety, but that's me. You may not be getting BBS because of the razor/blade combo you're using. To try and push for BBS with that combo will usually end up bad. Thus begins the hunt for the PERFECT razor/blade/soap/brush combo that never fails to render BBS.
Hence my purchase of a sampler pack of blades. Changing only one thing at a time, as advised by wise folks here at TSD.

I want to reiterate the wisdom of what PanChango wrote. Plus, folks won't notice a little stubble from a nice comfortable shave, but they sure do notice a red face with nicks! Never let perfect become the enemy of good enough.

I need to make a confession. When I treat myself to a straight razor shave, I only do one pass. My beard isn't thickly concentrated, but my whiskers are wire-y. So I usually have a sparse layer of sandpaper to scrape off. And that one pass is always up. And I'll do touch ups, naturally. Hey; it works. And it's comfortable.
Very nice handle. Is that the one from Ben? When I saw it listed, I had to close my browser and go do something else while I regained my willpower.
SotN Ranger Tech ER200 w/Omega Boar Menthol Glycerin Witch Hazel Nice cold shave tonight. Had to tone down the menthol witch hazel. Whoowee!!!! Bracing! This boar knot is awesome. Slowly becoming my favorite brush. Ranger Tech? Yep, it's a good'en.
Wednesday: L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash #6 Horsehair Super Speed/Shark day 3 Ginger's Garden Ice Mint SS Anherb AS Conditioner Mennen Skin Bracer AS Dolce & Gabbana EDT What a shave, what a shave, what a shave is all I can say after using this wonderful razor of mine with a good blade like the Shark and this absolutely awesome soap which Irena produces. It has such a nice minty scent and the lather is a pleasure to work with. It has a terrific cooling sensation which gets stronger and stronger throughout the shave, and afterwards your skin feels so good. As always, any time I use the Anherb stuff my skin feels like it's born again, and the Skin Bracer adds its own icy kick which I love so much.
