Perhaps unique to me? I tend to draw blood when my blade is fresh versus after using it a while. Hmm...
I seem to have the opposite problem. My first shave or two is usually the best and when I start to get nicks or irritation I toss the blade. That usually happens before I notice much pulling but if I push the blade another shave or two I'll start to notice pulling too.
I hand strop before every shave, and that includes the first shave with a new blade. Never had a problem drawing blood with fresh blades. Is that because I hand strop or just proper technique? No clue.
Before I learned the "no pressure" rule, fresh blades were dangerous and dull blades were my friend. The problem with that is there is a tradeoff- less than stellar shaves. For me, applying "no pressure" with fresh blades renders the best shave results with the fewest passes and the least irritation.
Steel quality varies a great deal. I like Astra's - find them smooth and relatively sharp, but they degrade quickly and I barely get 3 shaves out of one. Feather, on the other hand, is very sharp and very smooth, but made of superior stuff, and I can push one to a whole week. Feather's are twice as expensive, but last twice as long.
Great video! Thanks for the info... I have no idea what I am getting into, but I think it's better than my plastic rusty disposables I used for several months each!
