Tuesday: Prep: Hot shower, AoS Unscented PSO Brush: VDH Boar Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Merkur (1) Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH Cologne: Burberry Brit First day with the infamous Merkur blade. I'd put it on par with the Shark from earlier in my sample pack, with comparable smoothness and sharpness; were I a bigger fan of the Shark, I'd be more tempted by the Merkur's performance, but even then the price would make it hard to choose Merkur intentionally. DFS, generally, with one nick along the throat. No ASB today, to keep my face from getting too oily - and yes, I know the ASBs I use are "oil-free."
TUESDAY RAZOR: DE89 BLADE: Derby BRUSH: Omega 599 SOAP: Arko POST: Dickenson's Witch Hazel and Aqua Velva Arko and Aqua Velva is a superb combo. Try it! Have a great day.
The Gillette Blue Tip 'Lady's Razor' was supposedly the 'mildest' SS Gillette made. Considering how mild the standard SS shaves, it is no surprise that using the blue tip successfully to remove all the whiskers requires repeated efforts. I chased the baby once with my 'new' Red Tip and for my efforts received a close shave, plus irritation AND tenderness...

Tuesday Perhaps the best shave I've ever had today! Pretty close to BBS with only a single weeper. Little to no irritation anywhere else. Second time using a scuttle as well. I was very very surprised at how well the Williams took to the scuttle. I did have to work a little harder whipping it (probably twice as much as another soap), but oh man it was the best lather I've had yet! Prep: Hot shower and washed my face off with Dove's glycerin soap (grape seed/oil scent) Brush: Simply Beautiful Basic Badger Brush Razor: Merkur 180 Long handle Blade: New Astra Blade Soap: Williams + a shot of glycerin Scuttle: Robert Beckman with piping hot water microwaved. Tuesday Wash: TSD unscented soap Lather: TSD unscented wheat cream Brush: TGN 20mm synthetic in Burma Shave handle Razor: Gillette fat handled Tech Blade: Astra SP After: TSD unscented aftershave milk Nice, close comfortable shave. The TSD cream was excellent, as always. Second day with the TGN synthetic. Knot is soft, but a little scrubbier than the Mühle black fiber synthetic that I have been favoring lately. Of course, that brush has to be one of the softest experiences around. Another warm day in Seattle!

Bobcat, I'm looking at your Flair Tip Super Speed and noticed the end caps (or where the end caps of a super speed should be) on you razor are split. Also, the head heigth appears to be tall as opposed to the flatter heads of the Flair tip SS's (lower head heigth after 1962 I think.) It looks like this is an anomaly. It looks like a Flair tip SS handle on an early (1941) Ranger Tech Head. The solid end caps were added to the Ranger Tech in 1946 and beyond when the '40's style SS's replaced the Ranger Tech. (The head geometry stayed the same but the handle was changed to the '40's SS handle style in 1947. Is there a date code on the bottom plate of your razor? (I'm thinking there isn't any.) At any rate, it really looks like a Ranger Tech Head with a Flair Tip handle. Interesting! Did you get this razor off e-bay? I'm thinking you may have gotten a Frankenrazor there. ?????
