An experiment today. I have a wedding to attend this evening (weird, I know). One and done this morning, and I'll give her another two passes, or one plus touch ups at suppertime.

I still made enough lather for about six passes. Oops.

    Friday

    Wash with unscented glycerin soap
Lather mix of TSD wheat cream, Mike's, Petal pushers, Queen Charlotte
    Oscar11 brush with HIS knot
    Gillette fat handled Tech
    Gillette yellow blade
    TSD unscented aftershave milk

For the past several days I have been saving my leftover lather in a mug. I have always felt slightly wasteful when I have lots of nice lather left in my brush when I am finished shaving. I like my HIS brushes, but their large synthetic knots produce more lather than I ever need. As I added lather each day, I mixed the fresh wet lather in with the dried lather in the mug. The result had a texture much like a prepared shave cream.

So, how did the experiment work out? The performance of the franken-lather was quite satisfactory, but the odd mixture of unscented soaps had a curious fragrance. Maybe I will try again but be a bit more careful about what I mix.

Three passes with care for proper technique gave me a very smooth, comfortable shave. :)

Giving my face a few days off from the R41. Got very few weepers, but the irritation mounted with continuous use. I can see I have some learning to do before it can be a daily razor. For now it probably needs to be a 2 pass system.

    FRIDAY

    a. Pre: Hot shower,Hot 2-minute towel, Homemade PSO
    b. Razor: Merkur 38c HD Barber Pole
    c. Blade: Merkur Super (Day 12), hand-strop pre & post shave
    d. Brush: Omega 48 Boar
    e. Soap: L'Occitane Cade soap, MEM Cream & liquid Glycerinscuttle-warmed Über-lather!!
    f. Shave: 3 passes and touch-up
    g. Post: Cold water rinse & dry; Pinaud Clubman AS & Pre De Provence balm

Excellent shave this Friday morn! I'm detecting some slight resistance on this Day 12 blade, but no discomfort nor irritation from it.
The blade simply keeps mowing through the stubble...with no bloodletting involved. DFS+...could've chased BBS, but I'm being cautious. ;)

That's one of the things that makes me cringe - people telling others they only need to spend 15 seconds or make 20 swirls on the puck to get a good lather. I say spend as much time as you need and swirl the brush as often as you must. Let the lather tell you when it's ready, not the clock.

And one should always wet the face and re-lather between passes; helps prevent irritation.

Not "between passes," but "during the 2nd and 3rd passes." In other words, I lathered up 5 times to do 3 passes.

Razor: '61 Gillette "Fat Boy" on 4
    Blade: Feather, 5
    Cream: Taylor's Eton College
    Toner: little water, little Prep
    Finish: Royall Lyme splash

Very nice and refreshing shave, Feather is still as smooth as can be, though a little less lethal. Great blade/razor combo for me - keeps the Feather from going all ninja on me. Perhaps the head geometry?

I'm moving on to the next SE razor in my arsenal, the Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf with a Gem stainless steel blade. I'll also be trying out the TSD Lemons and Figs lanolin soap with my EMJ synthetic brush. The few TSD soaps that I have used in the past have not worked well for me, but none of them have been of the lanolin variety. The Lemons and Figs feels completely different from the the other TSD soaps I have tried and it smells great, so I have high hopes.

I did a two pass wtg/atg shave followed by a cold water rinse and some SAL Alum. This shave was an improvement over yesterday's, but it was still not quite where I need it to be quality wise. The Lemons and Figs lathered up a bit thin, but it did the job and smelled nice through out the shave. I made sure to keep the Clog Pruf's head flat against my skin and kept a closer eye on my angle, but I still got some irritation and a small nick. My technique with SE razors still needs work, but I'm improving every day and I look forward to mastering SE razors.

Pre: Hot shower and warm water splash
    Razor: Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf
    Blade: Gem stainless steel
    Brush: Every Man Jack synthetic
Soap: TSD Lemons and Figs lanolin
Post: Cold water rinse and SAL Alum
