After decades in denial, I have returned to the ways of my fathers. I bought a Merkur classic last week, and I'm never going back to over priced carts! To start out, I bought a mug, soap and brush kit from a local Meijer for nine bucks. I'm happy with it so far, but the free samples I got from Art of Shaving, and reading this forum are making me wonder. Proraso soaps and creams look very good, for example. I bought a Shea butter pre-shave oil to try today, and I'm not sure about it yet. I am hoping to limit irritation on my lower neck, and I was hoping a pre-shave would help with that. I use Aveeno aftershave, and that does make me feel better and reduces redness quickly. I'm glad to be among some like-minded gents - at least in terms of shaving wet, anyway.
Welcome to TSD! Glad you like wet shaving. As for the well spent nine bucks: take care or you'll fall into the trap we (almost) all fell into: the various AD's (acquisitio disorders). Before you know it your den will be overflowing.... Don't say I didn't warn you!
Welcome to the Den! I see you've already found the thread on making your own pre-shave oil. Very easy to do, and cost very little. You'll like it.
Welcome! Also I'm just taking a wild guess here, but you wouldn't happen to be a Tigers fan would you?
