I had orientation for a new job today, so I was looking for a nice clean shave that wouldn't take much time this morning. I went with the Gem MicroMatic Clog Pruf with a Gem stainless steel blade, some Vitos Extra Super in shave stick form (which I lathered using my Muhle/TGN synthetic brush), and some SAL Alum and Simpson's ASB to finish.

Two passes, wtg/atg, gave me a BBS shave with zero nicks and some mild irritation on the right side of my neck. I can always count on Vitos Extra Super and my Muhle (reknotted with a TGN synthetic knot) to perform well together. The Clog Pruf does not like being rushed and it expressed its distaste for my speeding by tugging on my neck, but I managed to tame it relatively well. I am really starting to rely on the Simpson's ASB to keep my skin hydrated and smooth. Overall, a good shave, even if it was a bit rushed.

Pre: Hot shower and warm water splash
    Razor: Gem MicroMatic Clog Pruf
    Blade: Gem stainless steel
    Brush: Muhle/TGN synthetic
    Soap: Vitos Extra Super
Post: Cold water rinse, SAL Alum, and Simpson's ASB

    Pre-shave wash with Noxzema
Muhle R41 2013 thanks Germany, confirmed larger head
    Feather Blade thanks Japan
Cella, Crema Sapone Extra Extra Purissima thanks Italy
    Anthony Pre-Shave Oil
Omega 49 Boar Brush thanks Italy
Post-Shave Wash with Lubriderm Face Wash
    Thayer's Rose Water Witch Hazel
    Lubriderm 3 in 1 Aftershave
Bloc Osma Alum Block thanks France

I know Feather's and the R41 seem very aggressive. Well they are, in terms of being efficient. Even though I did have to use some Corn Huskers the first time I used this combo. I had 2 days growth but it was all gone in 1 pass. I did 3 passes only because Cella lathers so well with the Omega boar brush. I had a ton of product to spare. I honestly can't tell if the Thayer's is ever really doing anything, but I like it anyway.

I usually don't use Lubriderm. I will sometimes put it on after Nivea Shave Balm. But it was nice to use it solo, not bad stuff. It seems to leave my face feeling better longer than the Nivea, especially after the R41/Feather combo.

    Today's shave.

Prep: hot shower, TBS Maca Root.
    Brush: Vulfix Burlington.
    Razor: Schick Krona.
    Blade: Personna Lab.
    Cream: Palmolive Menthol.
Post: cold water rinse, Thayer's Lavender WH, Clubman.

I don't know what it is, but something is throwing me off of my game. Usually, Palmolive lathers like a beast for me. But today, the lather felt airy and took longer to get stable. I got it together, but I about lost all my patience. Maybe I'm just having a bad spell or something.

SOTD 09-20-13 Williams Week going strong

    * Shower:
    • Soap: Irish Spring Original bar soap (brand new bar)
    • Shampoo: Head & Shoulders with Old Spice scent

    * Shave:
    • Prep: Hot shower, Nivea Face wash, Every Man Jack Signature Mint Face Scrub, Hot towel
    • Brush: Van Der Hagen Boar
    • Lather: Williams Mug Shave Soap
    • Razor: Dollar Shave Club Executive
    • Cartridge use: 6
    • Passes: WTG/ATG/Touch-up
    • Post: Warm water rinse, Cold water rinse, Alum Block, Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm, Old Spice Aftershave

Williams week going strong and you know what? The shaves are actually miraculously getting more...comfortable. Not sure if I'm just getting so experience with Williams that I know how to properly use it, or if I'm just ripping my face to hell and back and my face is just used to it. But today I omitted the Corn Huskers Lotion to see how it played a part in the comfort of Williams. I must say, I actually got a closer more comfortable shave without the CHL with Williams. Also I did 2 passes today, I think that played a big part of my comfort level because I'm currently using an enormous 6 blade razor and obviously reducing passes eliminates many times the blade crosses the skin. Speaking of the razor, the Executive, I've used this cartridge for 6 days in a row and it hasn't dulled much at all. Which is strange I usually feel a sense of wear during say 4 or 5. Still holding up. Williams week, definitely no challenge for me. I can get a pretty decent shave with it. Dare I say, near BBS shave today using Williams. Have a great night, folks.

Prep: The Handmade Soap Company - (Useless) Shaving Soap
    Razor: Merkur HD
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock Super Stainless
    Brush: Merkur Futur
    Cream: Saigon from Als Shaving
    Aftershave: La Toja
    Moisturizer: Fitjar Chamomile Cream

Today my samples from Als Shaving arrived, and I have been very curious about these creams for a while now. On first whiff, the creams have some interesting scents and after a random pick, Saigon was chosen.

I put a pea sized amount in my mug and started lathering. I have always read that these creams do not need much product before exploding into a rich creamy lather. Maybe I used to little product because that did not happen to me. But the lather that emerged was decent enough.
A little thin, perhaps. But doable for a nice shave.

Or so I thought. When I started shaving, the first thing I noticed was the lack of glide. It was almost that the shaving cream prevented me from moving the razor forward. It would probably be smoother if I used only water. I am sure that it was something wrong with my prep,
I used a different soap for the first time today. But I am reluctant to blame it all on that soap. I used a shaving soap from the Handmade shaving company. It is supposed to be a good soap for everything, but shaving. I have therefore "promoted" it to a face soap.
Another thing is that I had a reaction to the soap from Als Shaving. My skin did not like it and I believe it got slightly annoyed.
I will have to try it again. This time using a different scent and perhaps prepping with my usual soap.
Another culprit might be the blade. I used a green 7 o'clock blade from Russia, and although it felt sharp and somewhat smooth, despite the troubles I had with the glide, I am not ruling anything out at this point.
I will wait a few days and try again.

I had my last shave with the MITA (just re-ordered). This is a great shaving, conditioning, and easy to lather soap! Smells good too! I loaded up my Super Speed with a Polsilver SI blade today. What a great shave! I finished with the final menthol blast using my “Osage Brisk” aftershave.

Guys, I know that this might seem a bit unorthodox or strange, but Williams is Williams as far as I'm concerned! This cream is absolutely awesome - a beautiful scent which I find hard to describe with thick, rich lather which is so easy to create, and a great menthol effect which lingers for quite a while after a shave. The Svoboda balm and Barbon aftershave are two items which I can't stop talking about. An excellent shave with so little effort. ;) :D

    Brush: Parker synthetic
    Razor: Merkur 37c
    Blade: 7 o'clock yellow (2)
Post: cold water rinse, alum block, Proraso Green pre/post

I decided to try out two pre shave oils today to compare them. I put Shea Moisture's African Black Soap Beard Softener on half my face, and Jack Black Nourishing Oil on the other. JB is thinner and covers more area, but costs 5x more. I did not notice a major difference during my shave, but I was able to get DFS after two n-s passes. I got one weeper and the alum block revealed very little irritation. I used the Proraso because I just love the menthol feeling .
My wife asked me "don't you take a day off from shaving anymore?" Nope I look forward to it now.

What a glorious shave. I decided that I was tired of banging my fingers and brush off the side of the mug to get the remnants of the puck of Walter's Rose and pulled out a puck of Institut Karite. My lather was slightly off after about 3 months of the same soap, but should be dialed in the next day or two.
