U.S. vendors sometimes spread the rumor that there is no difference between the models, or that the 2013 model doesn't exist or that it has been discontinued. They have been hurt by the U.S. distributor's failure to import the new model. Vendors are not necessarily lying because of what the distributor is telling them. It is true that the 2013 model does not exist--at least in the U.S.! There is another rumor that the 2013 model has been discontinued. This is not true. According to Christian Muller, co-General Manager of Muhle, the 2013 model will continue to be produced. There are no future plans to change it in any way, and there are no plans to discontinue it.
You are correct in saying there is minimal--if any--difference in blade gap, but a significant difference in blade exposure. Here is a photo that demonstrates this.
I found from another DE a cap,i cut the screw It's a little bit different, one click curbed and a little bit wider. My 2011 R41 with 2 days beard was a tough scenario Ready to cut me at any chance but today the things were different With 2 days beard the shave was much more easier Of course not as other Open Comp designs but i thing with this cap i "tamed" my 2011 a lot That pleases me !
[q uote="Omelmad, post: 680115, member: 10943"]Does the handle of a Muhle r41 grande fit on a regular muhle r89? =)
Yes it does
Yes it does
Something went wrong with that quote technical error maybe, but thank you =) I was thinking about WHEN I get a more aggressive razor I might get the grande so that I can use the big handle and the ordinary handle on both =P
Most three piece razors have handles (top plates and guards too) that can be interchanged. When you interchange most of the parts we call it a Frankinberry razor. Lol Interesting to play with but be carful it can be dangerous ....
Here is my R41 2011 razor with a shortened R102 handle and a new cap I have test it twice and works fine, much easier than the original 2011 version !
it's there an easy way of identifying the 2011 version from the others I sorta want one how do you identify that it is a2011?
Here ya go: 2011 vs 2013 R41 The 2011 version is getting difficult to find nowadays, and the current prices they are going for (often $100 & up) reflects both the demand and the scarcity.
Heres one of the most inexpensive solutions for up-sizing the handle for the R41: Big handle for the R41
order two have them sent to me, I'll send one to you. isn't it about the same give or take five bucks
I got one as a gift (2013). It has practically no blade exposure and the angle is very large and scrape-y. I won't be using it because of that last point. It's good that they curbed the blade flex on it though. With the Fatip I had there was so much of it I would press down with my finger and the blade would easily bend and return to it's proper place when I removed my finger.
