This is my first venture into safety razor shaving. I bought an Edwin Jagger DE89L three-piece razor. I always rinse it well with hot water and use a towel to pat it dry. I know that I need to keep the razor in an unenclosed place and let air drying do the rest. Any other maintenance tips would be greatly appreciated.
Nothin' to add to that daily routine. That's all I do and never any problems. Soap scum will eventually build up some, even when wiping it down after every use; just seems to get into those tight places. I put the razor into a plastic tub, cover with a coating of Scrubbing Bubbles, let the bubbles disappear, then use a soft toothbrush as needed, rinse with hot water, dry off, there ya go!
I clean my razors after each use also, and I remove/clean/dry the blade as well. I use a can of compressed air (used to remove dust from electronics) to blow the water out of the tight spots; it works well.
This is also part of my daily routine. I also disassemble the razor into it's separate parts. One of my reasons for going through this whole cleaning/drying/ blade removing process is it allows me to start fresh every morning when deciding which razor to use. This, plus the fact if I DO decide to use the same razor, both razor and blade are 'sparkly' clean & after a quick assembly, ready for action!
I just rinse and shake then pat dry without touching the blade's edge. Once in a while when it looks like it's time I clean the parts back to new condition.
I keep the old toothbrush with my shaving stuff and occasionally clean it with that. If you keep up with it (i.e. every 2-4 weeks) scrubbing bubbles aren't really necessary, as just plain soap works well with the toothbrush.
After each use I rinse with hot water, towel dry, hang to air dry. When I replace the blade I do a more through cleaning. Alcohol dip, toothbrush.
After each use I rinse the safety razor and blade with an old soft toothbrush and hot water, and towel dry.
