Here is a random thought that caught my mind on this Thanksgiving Week-end: All of you who are using straight razors are really in the spirit of the thanksgiving week-end, since you are shaving the same way that the Pilgrims did on the first thanksgiving.
I wouldn't call shaving with fancy creams and soaps, luxurious brushes and a razor so sharp it can split an atom the same as the pilgrims but i get what your saying. Have a great Thanksgiving
I didn't think the Straight Razor was invented until the 1700's so I don't know exactly what the Pilgrims were using back then but yes I will be using my straight razor today for shave #8. Happy Thanksgiving. bj
I know this a monumental waste of time but you are right 2Sharp. The straight razor as it is known today did not take its present form until the late 1700s. This would be the L form. The straight itself is far older than the Pilgrims, there is evidence in 480 Emperor Pompeii would shave with a straight, although his straight did not resemble the straights of today. His was a knife form with the blade did not fold into the handle of the blade as the straights of today to. The Pilgrim's straight rather resembled a knife.
I know the ancient Egyptians used bronze razors. Here is a link to a sample. http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/htnf/ho_36.3.69,.13.htm Just think, they shaved all their hair!
