Well I just finished my second shave with the newly revisited Gillette Silver Blue. Astra, pol silver and perma sharp were my old stand bys and allthough they all produced near BBS , I have never since 1985 had a 100% BBS shave. The second shave on a Gillette SB produced just that. I do 4 passes with plenty of blade buffing and was not at all expecting the results I obtained after todays shave. I did nothing different technique wise the only change being the ancient Gillette SB blade I dug out of the bottom of my shave kit while looking for a safety pin and I used my EJ89 and gave my Gem se a break. Truly , I had given up on ever wacking the 2 spots on my neck to bbs and was satisfied with the near bbs I was able to produce consistantly with the other blades. Personel best and just had to tell somebody.
I hope so, the Gillette Silver Blue really is the end all be all for me. My search for the perfect blade has truly come to an end.
Good job mate,I was just going to reply to you on my thread. Tried the blade buffing last night and it was the closest by far, 98% bbs.
Congrats on the BBS shave! I had a similar experience with a Voskhod Teflon coated blade in my EJ DE89L.
Thanks fellas, gotta tell ya, It was AWESOME Do they not make the Gillette Silver Blue blades any more?
I am getting close to BBS everywhere.......Congrats to you!!! I have only used Astra SP's as of but I am going to try some other ones!!
Well the 3rd shave with the Gillette silver blue was a dfs but not bbs. I guess 2 shaves is about the limit for bbs on that blade. Still produces a good clean shave but even after 4 passes and serious blade buffing, the 2 spots still have the sand paper feel when rubbed atg. A new blade every 2 days? May get a bit pricey, Still the only bbs I have ever had however. If I could find a blade that produces those results but lasts longer, oh my !
A BBS shave is the goal of most shavers. Congratulations on hitting the elusive mark! I have learned to view a Baby Butt Smooth result as a reward for a thorough job well done. However, although I tend to set my sights upon the BBS as an ideal result, I've become realistic enough to know that this is not always possible. Some times if my skin may be a bit tender or inflamed, or perhaps I'm pressed for time, then 'good enough' is, indeed, good enough. 'Chasing the baby' can become habit-forming, and unfortunately lead to further skin irritation, bloodletting, aggravation and frustration. I've had wonderful shaving experiences with a variety of razors, and even IF I didn't hit the BBS mark, I still considered the outing successful.
Your point of view on the subject not only makes good sense, but is just plain good advise. Problem is, now that I have found a razor/blade set up that has proven to produce bbs, I'm hooked. Nothing good can come from this, I'm screwed
Congratulations, Cool Breeze! That should be a mantra for all wetshavers, especially newbies, as it says a great deal with few words. There are so many posts on the various forums in which guys try to force a baby bottom smooth shave and wind up needlessly suffering. Wetshaving is about smooth, comfortable shaves and happiness, not frustration, irritation and disappointment. A positive attitude and realistic expectations will, at the very least, yield a lifetime of shaving satisfaction. Here is the proof: And if a fellow happens to find the oft-elusive baby bottom smooth shave? That is just icing on the cake.
Holy crap! BBS again. I must be getting realy good at this fellas, todays bbs was actually very easily obtained. Dont know if its the tecnique or the blades (I now use the Gillette silver blues only) Ive been using a de for years and until I found this forum, had no idea what a challenge or how rewarding shaving could be.
Ok, I know for sure now. Took out the 3 shave pol silver this morning and put in a fresh gillette silver blue, Yea, yet another bbs. It is most definately not some miracle improvement in my technique. It's most definately the EJ Gillette silver blue combo. No rash, irritation, nicks or weepers. I didn't even know I was there until I slapped on the cheap blue stuff (AV) No stinging and no sandpaper when I rubbed in the blue juice. I guess my search is truly over........Now to find them in bulk.
I've been getting BBS constantly with the ej and rapira blade and its the first blade I've tried in it. Its definitely a good feeling having no sting from as as well as smooth all over
