They still make Herban Cowboy? That was my second shave soap ever (5 yrs ago now, at least) and it is still the worst ever. It does not work.

We should resurrect the HAVOC vs. AVCL conflict. You're definitely in the HAVOC camp.

As for what I regret- I didn't buy a shaving related item in 2013. At all. But I did receive a horse hair brush as a gift. A vie long 12601, I think. As a brush it is functional. But it doesn't work as well as my C&E pure badger brush. The badger holds more lather and sheds less.

Absolutely YMMV. This is why it's alway interesting to read these type of threads as everyone's tastes & preferences varying widely! 'One man's trash is anther man's treasure.'
Case in point: I'm no fan of Aqua Velva, but as you know, I really enjoy using the SheaMoisture African black soap shave butter créme— a product many people give thumbs down to. I also use Merkur blades and have never had a bad experience with one. Some folks loathe these blades. The Merkur 39c has been one of my 'Top 3 Favorite Game-Changing Razors of all time.'

I almost used Aqua Velva last week post-shave. I started to reach for it, but in a moment of unexpected clarity, shook off the temptation and grabbed some bay rum. I attributed my moment of weakness to severe head congestion, a 102°fever and a possible flu-inspired out-of-body experience where I thought it was 1976 and I was Pete Rose...

I think it is kinda awesome that you didn't buy any shaving related stuff. I tried not to and did surprisingly well with only 2, maybe 3, items.

    I do love some AV.....:)

Ohh boy.. where to start? I've made many purchases that in hindsight should have been avoided.

I have more than the 3 below, but those below are the ones that aggravate me most and have costs me most money.

Those 3 that stand out the most are as follows:

    Korium "Ocean Blue" scuttle
I love the craftsmanship put into this handmade scuttle. Alas, it's too small to my likens and frankly - I think it's too much hassle in the daily shave mania to use it then. I have to watch my swirls too much or else I have my lather all over the scuttle, my hand and the brush's handle. Also it was too expensive, but being an European, we don't have many options for such hardware and it was the only I could find at that given time. More have been located since, but I'll sit on my hands for the time being.. :)

    Alt Innsbruck
It's supposed to be an uni-sex scent. I didn't knew how it smelled prior purchase but I've found it smells like old ladies. I've never encountered that smell on a man here, but "all" the grannies over age 60 use it. It's a quite nice scent actually but I can't see myself using it really because of my mental connections on the scent. Great menthol kick though when used as an after shave, but lousy skin care.

    '60-70's-era SylvaC creamwhite vintage scuttle
Really nice mint specimen. Got if off eBay for way too much and it just sits on my shelf for good looks. I dunno why I had to have it. Maybe I thought I could soak my brush in it and lather on the top, but neither works for me. Pure mistake.

I've always wanted to give Alt Innsbruck a try, but I'm just not willing to fork over that much money for an after shave. It's supposed to smell like the tobacco flower.

I tried to be good with shaving purchases this year, but ended up do a bunch of horse trading and a few purchases. My account is still in the black for this year.

Well, in fairness, you really ought to load up on Speick. Then you can smell like et gammelt tysk bedstefar.*

I have Speick after shave lotion already. I love the smell and also the performance/skincare but it doesn't really suit me, strange as it may sound. So it's in my trade-box, hoping for a new owner :)

Google was almost spot on with the translation. It should have been "en gammel tysk bedstefar" and not "et gammelt tysk bedstefar". Perfectly understandable though, typical danish grammar twists :)
