Beautiful....The Schick Hydro-magic has always quickened my heart....I've always loved it...:love029:
That brush is a heart breaker too...that transparent amber handle kind of has a Schick thing happening...

I'm sure you will be glad you did Justin....Col Schick did invent a better mousetrap....Right now I'm digging the older EverReady 1914's and 1924's....But when all's said and done, I would never not want to be without my favorite injector...;).......and either a 'cherry, ER'14 or '24.........

This is the Safety Razor that I've always thought, "If Aston Martin made a razor"...;)

The J and 'Golden 500' also remind me of sport cars...the J's have more of an 'E type' Jag thing happening with the long hood...

Picked up a PAL Adjustable this week and posted it in The Haul. Question about vintage blades. Any danger in using vintage blades (whether sealed in original packaging or not) if there's no visible signs of rust/corrosion? I'm kinda curious but kinda leery at the same time.

If there is no rust or corrosion in an injector pack they are usually fine from a use standpoint, but PALs are notorious for being rough shaving blades. I may get 2 or 3 shaves from them and they are not the best of shaves. Vintage Schick and Personna blades are much better in terms of shaving edge and how many shaves you can get from them.

Thanks for the tip! The razor shined up so nice and the blades looked so good I had half a mind to pop one in tomorrow morning. I'll go with a brand new Personna for my 1st shave.

I looked all over the internet for info on this razor last night but didn't find much other than some QC complaints so I'm anxious to give mine a go. I'm really impressed with it's looks even if it doesn't end up to be something I shave with.

Great stuff here! I've always just stuck with the DE up to now, but since tuning in to the whole hobby side of wet shaving I've seen the old E and G types (think I've got that right...not 100% sure tho' :signs002:), and I'm curious about the heads that were designed to open up. Firstly, what are the types that opened and secondly, is there any weakness in the design? From the little I've been able to gather to now it looks like they early E types had heads that opened and the later ones not, but I'm not at all sure I've got that straight. Seems to me like the ability to open the head and clean it would be a significantly positive design, but maybe the springs wear out or something, I dunno.

What say you in the know? I remember a later black handled Schick that was a favourite of my father's growing up, probably an L type if I've got it right. But those older art deco types are catching my eye at the moment. :)

Well I've been using a spring opening 70 year old Type E2 for over a year now with no sign of the spring weakening. I have E1, E2, G1, G6, J1, Golden 500,J1, K3, L1 and M2 adjuster and love every one of these little beauts. All different in their own way.

At least one of the E-types was designed so the spring can swing away but I'm not positive which one. I don't have an E but I hear they're among the more aggressive injectors you can find. I have a couple G-types and they look very similar to the E but they're not made to open. The G's are good shavers and it seems they can be found cheaper most of the time.

There's also the I2 Hydro-magic and some others with the Hydro-magic feature that has a lever and allows you to open up the head. The Hydro-magic's are made so when you open them they hold the blade in. It's a great feature for getting stubborn lather out but if you don't make your lather too dry, it's really not a problem with any of the heads. The I2 is my favorite of the ones I've tried so far.

Thanks for the responses guys. :) I should have asked this earlier, but what do the numbers signify? E1, E2, G1, G6, etc.? I understand the letters signify the different Types through the years. Are the numbers for yearly production quarters like the Gillettes?

Around 2003, Alan G Appleby cataloged the various types of Schick Injectors and gave them arbitrary letters and numbers which has proved very useful in distinguishing the types and sub- types. The sequence from A through to O does follow a manufacturing timeline from the 1920s to 1990s but there is a considerable overlap in manufacturing years from one type to another.

The 'D's, 'E2's, 'I2's, and the J2's, Golden 500, and the 'K's which are the Lady Eversharps.
The 'D' opens like a pair of scissors....the E2 has the spring that swivels to the side and the jaws drop open. With these the blade drops out when you open it... The E2, J2, Golden 500, and K type 'Lady Eversharp' all have the Hydro-magic lever which drops the jaw but keeps the blade loaded...All of these I think are great...I also like the ones that don't open...

For many reasons the 1955 'I2' Hydro-magic is my fav, but thats a personal thing, YMMV...But I've never met a Schick I didn't dig...

One reason, it looks like an Aston Martin...This thing could get a speeding ticket sitting still...LOL...Razorx called it 'Hydro-zilla:
