After some time of looking around I finally, a couple of months ago, found MY 'Birth Year & Quarter Razor" - a Gillette Slim. While I really like the design and it being a great shaver...my 'heart' is with the OC razors (my Barbasol Floating head, Gillette Big Boy and Gillette NEW SC being the top three). I find that I don't really go for my birth year razor and even though I will never give it up it may a razor that I use on my birthday..and some other occasions..but it's not really in the 'rotation' per se. Do you, if you have one, love your Birth Year Razor to the point it is a regular razor for you?
I don't use mine much either. It's a short-handled Super Adjustable and I really prefer 3-piece razors so I use them a lot more often. I do drag the SA out once in a while though.
I had a 'birth year' Gillette model 195 'Fat Boy' that I enjoyed using for a while. But alas, as with most razors I've owned, I wound up selling it to fund other shaving paraphernalia.
The '69 Super Adjustable I got out of the bawx is an awesome shaver for me, better than any of the other DE's I've tried. I just wished it was a 4th quarter instead of a 3rd quarter, then it'd be perfect.
I also have my birth year AND birth quarter super adjustable. I recently obtained it through a trade and absolutely love it. It is most definately my daily shaver. The long handle, the adjustable head. Wish I had more face to shave. +1, mine is an 04 69, my birthyear and quarter.
I also have my birth year AND birth quarter adjustable and flare tip. I love them but they make me feel old. They are 50 this year
very nice, I need to slow down. I wasnt aware Gillette had more than 1 offering during the same year. Great, you know what that means. So much for slowing down.
I enjoy both of the Birth Year razors I have: Tech and 40's Style Super Speed. I enjoy rotating through all of my razors though.....
I have a Gillette Slim H3. I really like it, right now my favorite razor is the R41. But I do use the slim at least once a month.
Mine is a 1941 Ranger Tech. I don't use it much, as it is too mild and takes too many passes to get a close shave. I'll keep it, but for sentimental reasons only. It would've been great when I was 13, but not now.
I have a '62 Slim that gives great shaves. It's in my rotation with all my other razors (I don't keep razors in the rotation that are not capable of a great shave) and the '62 gets no special treatment or love above any of the others. Nope. No favorites
Sadly I don't have a birthyear model, I'm too young apparently. But I imagine that if I had, I'd take it for a spin on my birthday, Xmas, new years eve and other special days.
I have a '62 Slim that I occasionally use. I also have a '68 SS that is my wife's birth year. My 16 year old son is starting to shave and is using the SS. Right now he just has to shave his mustache area. When he gets to the point where he has to shave his entire face, I'll give him the Slim. The really cool thing is that when he first started shaving, I asked him if he wanted a new razor or if he wanted one of mine. He said he would rather use one of mine so I thought it would be fitting to start him with the SS and then the Slim. The great thing about the SS is that it is so mild. He has shaved about a half dozen times now and hasn't cut himself or even gotten any irritation. I think it's really cool that one day he pass to his son a razor that made the year his grandfather was born and that it still works just as well now as it did then.
I have two Super Speed Blue Tips and two Red Tips that are all my birth year but only one of the Blues is my quarter too. I love using them all.
I use a 1968 Super Speed. I was born in 1982...Lets face it.....it was a bad year for razors....it happens
