On an earlier thread, I showed what Oscar11 (Steve) had sent me. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-generosity-of-steve.29585/ Now here are the results of the first completed handle.
Remember you can enter in for a similar handle ... http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/august-brush-handle-pif.29638/
Gary did a great job. But read enough threads on this topic and you can learn it too. That's how I learned what to do.
Very true! Here is another thread on this topic. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/brush-knot-and-handle-shimming-diagram.29671/
Oh sawoooooooooooon! I've lusted over a beautiful oscar11 alternate-casein handle since seeing it on another board's archive. (Loved it so much, I asked Steve's permission to post it in the Handle Envy thread ). Fun & elegant at the same time, your oscar11 looks marvelous in her Ace 'do!!
They are my go to blades when I test a new razor, use an extremely aggressive razor, or when my face needs a rest. The Big Ben is not the sharpest, there are others that are sharper, but it is one of the smoothest I have used (and I have used many different blades). There is a trade off between blades; how they are stropped and hone at each factory and even between blade types in the same factory to provide a different level of cutting effect. That has been shown by a well respected person on another site taking Electron Microscopic images of blades. The Big Ben is set to be more of a smooth performer. I would not use them in a mild razor because it becomes inefficient. Big Ben blades will not last as long as some of the others, but if I need to test or get some rest, it is my blade of choice.
