I received a Col. Conk shaving brush & soap in 1985 as a gift and thought it was the best stuff I'd ever used. In 1992 I dumped the cheap synthetic brush and picked up a quality badger brush. I asked myself why I waited so long? Through all these years I've wandered in a self-imposed purgatory of multi-bladed cartridge razors. Paying too much, so so shave, a face raw at the end of the week. Why? I don't know. Perhaps I enjoyed the self-abuse. Anyway, this week I bought a fine Merkur and found the promised land a proper DE shave. How could I have been so willingly lost for so long?
not all synthethic brushes are bad. I own a HIS brush now and it is just as good as a badger. However I used to own a Parker synthetic
Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
I've heard synthetic brushes have come a long way. No offense intended towards those that use synthetics.
I see you just joined us today Hayes 413... to TSD "Hayes"............I hope you enjoy it here...... I'm glad you've taken up "traditional" shaving, it will only get better from here....
I think we all get caught in routine occasionally. But it sounds like you've broken free! "Variety is the spice of life." It is true, yes? In time, when you find that you've mastered that new Merkur, you may want to seek out a good straight razor and give that a go! Welcome!
Glad to have you. I've been thinking of getting a synthetic, but I can't justify it now. I love my badger and boar. Enjoy your time here...
