I was hoping one of you guys can help with this razor I have. The only identifying marks are "solingen" on the blade and scales and "Solingen Germany." I have two others and they all have the name of a company.
I'm no expert, but I believe you have a pretty nice razor there. Glen, et. al. can tell you for sure, but if it says "Solingen", it ain't scrap metal. Nice going!
Glen will fill us in on more of this, but the word Solingen has been misused in recent times as noticed in the article below. http://www.solingenmade.com/marke/so-engl.pdf Here is a small excerpt: I think Fram has found the real deal, but Glen has the better eye for this.
That one is a bit different, that last pic #645 makes the back side grind look "Off" but it could be just the way the light is hitting it.. Is the backside a Hollow grind like the front ???? The very faint scroll work on the front side has a "Puma" look to it.. Koeller is another that made many of these style of razors.. That is all I can guess from the pics other than it looks to be in good shape... Also just a question is your S/N from the ship ????
Its full hollow on both sides it just looks weird because of the lighting. First I learned about that ship. Plus my avatar is a ships wheel so I can understand. Its just a shortening of my name and the avatar is a buddhist symbol. Just a coincidence
There were a number of straight makers in Solingen that weren't bit enough to produce razors under their own brand so they used the generic "Solingen" instead. It should be a good shaving razor.
