Hey all I got the Gillette fusion the other day! I have always been partial to gilette as they give a very BBS shave. Thoughts??

    Thanks all!

Far too expensive for what they do. They deliver a good shave, but a bunch of other cheaper carts will do the same for far less $.

I used to use a Fusion for my head. I still prefer paying $16/100 Personna blades instead of $23/4 Fusion cartridges.

    First, welcome to the Den!

It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.
I'm with Justin in that the price of carts is just way more than I'm willing to spend.
I get darn near BBS every time with my double edge razors and blades that cost 8 to 12 cents each.

Pure marketing hype. Especially the battery powered version... $20 for a three pack? That's highway roberry. im going to stick with SEs 1st, DEs 2nd. If there's none of those available a 2 blade cartridge.

I used to use Fusion. Quite a good blade. With the right prep I got close shaves and a smooth face.
But as others I wasn't willing to keep paying for those blades :)
But still, the best razor before my DE :)

Many people use the multi-blade carts with no issues and get great shaves. Some of us cannot due to skin irritation.

The gents have basically said you have options especially outside of current Gillette products and even with current Gillette products . The Sensor, Mach 3, and even vintage Atra and Trac II carts are available from Gillette.

The real deal is actually going into the vintage market with a Double Edge or Single Edge razor for cost savings and great shaves if you desire.

It can also become a hobby (which can be expensive) if you desire it to be.

So enjoy your shave and stick around and you may find there are other ways that are better for you.

Oh and one more thing ...

And that is a great point. I believe that people must choose for them selves. And even if some choose carts there are still great things to be learned about prep, technique and after shave treatment :)
And it is our own choice if we want DE, if we want it to expensive or just a means of shaving :)

The Gilette Fusion Proglide is a part of my permanent rotation, I love this razor and it's fun to use. Aces!

SE vs De? Differences? Advantages vs carts? Easy to learn? Shave fast or takes time in shaving?

There is a learning curve with using the old methods, such as blade angle, pressure, etc...
Carts take care of the angle for you and pivot requiring no techniques. It is slow at first, but after you learn how to use it, it's just as fast.

I used a Fusion for a long time but I had constant irritation from it. I had to shave every day for work though (military). I wish I'd tried other things earlier but never knew it was even possible to find stuff other than what they carried in the local stores. Now that I've gone away from the Fusion, I'm getting the closest and most comfortable shaves of my life. Now that I'm retired, if I had to go back to the Fusion I'd probably just grow a beard instead. But I keep shaving every day because I like it now.

    welcome to the den friend.
    I'm gonna kinda say what
    everyone seems to be
    dancing around.
    You will never get as
    comfortable, close,
    satisfying and economical
    shave with any type of
    canned goo and cartridges
as you will with the most
    basic double edge (or
    single edge) razor and a
    puck of soap, lathered
    nicely with a brush.
At Wal Mart or Target you
can get a Van Der Hagen
    kit that comes with every
thing you need but a razor.
And you can get a REAL
    nice razor for $30.00 or
    less

After over 30 expensive, "VERY" unsatisfying and "PAIN" filled years using a Trac 2 I'm simply done using carts period!! I now get "THE" most satisfying shaves of my life!! I can use and enjoy quality shave soaps and creams from around the world or simply enjoy my Arko soap for far less than canned goop...For less than $100 and in the space of 3-4 cigar boxes I have many many years worth of high quality DE blades...I have razors that will out live me and be passed on as heirlooms to my son and potentionally his son or daughter..

To those who enjoy the Gillette Fusion,Mach3 and "shaving systems" of that type I say if they work for you more power to you....I'll just stick with "traditional" tools and shaving techniques thank you very much...;)

I shave every other day with the Gillette Guard for the first pass and the Fusion for the second and third pass and really get a nice close shave with no irritation. I really like the fusion. I have tried straight, DE and carts and the fusion works the best for me. With using the guard for the first pass the fusion last me almost a month, 12-14 shaves before they start to pull a little.

To me all those razors are junk and I will never look at those as an option again.

In the end everyone shaves how they want; the only thing that matters is you enjoy your own methods and products.
