Straight razors for beginners

I have been using a merkur progress for a little while now and my wife asked me if I wanted a straight razor to add to my arsenal of shaving supplies and of course me being a man I said yes but I don't where to begin

 

When I buy my first straight it will be from gemstar customs. Glenn is a member here and always willing to give advice
