Dang, had I known that I could've sent the razor with the Grande handle in place of the regular. Total razor length: grande 107mm (4.2") vs regular 94 mm (3.7"); 14mm diameter vs 12mm

Hey man, its perfect as is, the head is the imporntant part. I have a couple of handles I could use with it. I just wanted the "real" R41 experience.
Thats one reason I love my 69 SA, its a long handle.

Well? I'm dying to hear what YOU think? You run her round the track yet?

    Wow.
This was the closest single pass I've ever had. A single pass on the face was almost as close as my regular second across the grain pass. I'm glad I had some warning about the aggressiveness of the razor. It shaves much closer than my Merkur open comb which I thought was a close shaver.
I didn't do too well on my neck which isn't unusual. I managed to do three passes but it still burns 40 minutes later. I even splashed with a lot of cold water, applied an alum stick and used an alcohol free aftershave twice.
I was amazed during my first strokes at how close it shaved with absolutely no pressure. It didn't even feel like anything but the blade was touching my face. It was a very different feel for me.
This razor is a keeper that I look forward to spending a lot of time practicing with.

    Very Nice.
Good to know I wasn't the only one taken by supprise.
Sorry to hear about your neck. I'm sure you've tried pre shave, hot towel, conditioner etc. but have you tried holding a cold rag instead of hot on your neck prior to shaving? You know, to close the pores and give the razor less chance to drag?

The Weber Razor 3 piece is a little bit heavy. 3.7oz. as compared to my vintage Gillette 1.2oz. might be because the handle on my Gillette is plastic.

Well gents, first R41 (2013) impressions. It did not disappoint! First few strokes and I noticed I could feel the blade, much similar to my only other OC razor (Razorock Jaws), but also much smoother (the Jaws tend to be a bit harsh for me). The first pass (WTG) left me looking very clean shaven, except the neck which is my usual trouble area, and I could still feel the stubble when I rubbed ATG. So as per my usual routine, I did a second pass ATG on the face, and WTG-ish on the neck. I realized then how different I held the handle to get proper blade alignment on that ATG stroke. That took a bit of getting used to and I think it'll take me a few more shaves to get completely comfortable with it. That left me with a CCS on the neck, and BBS on the face! I can compare this to the result I usually get from my 39C, but without the need for touch-ups on the face, or even with the intermediate XTG pass that I'd do with my DE89.

Bottom line, I'm really happy with this purchase and I'm planning on using it everyday next week to see if this would fit me as an everyday razor.

Today I shaved with the R41. I've been using a Progress on 4 for a couple of weeks. It's 10 hours since I shaved, my face is still smooth. No doubt you'll get a much closer shave with the R41. Happy Shaving!

As promised! My morning shave, 12hrs later! (14hrs if you include the time it took me to figure out how to resize and upload!)
Edit: I had to add that over 12hrs later, my face is still pretty smooth even though I could start feeling stubble again at around 5PM, which is as good as it gets for me anyways!

Congrats to everyone who is finding shaving nirvana with the R41....I said without even trying it, but seeing so many serious shavers settleing down and becoming 'honest shavers' with this insanely cool new tool, "I believe the R41 is the first new innovative masterpiece in the classic razor tradition in decades....and decades from now, serious shavers will be trying to hunt them down...We're lucky we can pick them up so easily...";)

I'm sorry. Someone other than the OP answered which model is being tested. Could the OP respond?

The R-41 is a big part of my personal shave den, in fact, tese days, my big 3 DE razors are the R-41, the merkur Futur, and an IKON open comb.

The 'hunt' has already started by many on the now discontinued and getting-more-difficult-to-find 2011 model. :)

I keep telling myself, "You don't need the rose gold... you don't need the rose gold; plain is just fine. Honest. You THINK you do, but you really don't….."
—but I am not sure I really believe it. ;) :D
