Hello all, I'm an active duty member of the USAF stationed in Germany. Meaning I shave every weekday whether I want to or not. Years of razor burn have taught me the cartridges must go out the window. My dad recently started using DE and is moving to SR. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping everything I'm reading works for me as well.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Be sure to sign up for the February Newbie Give-Away. Thanks for serving! Where in Germany? I was stationed at Rhein Main from '83-'86. Absolutely loved it. The mark rate being almost 3.50 to the dollar certainly made it nice! AFSC? I worked avionics on the big birds for my 20 years.
First of all, thank you for your service to our country. Second, welcome to TSD! Lots of great info and folks here.
I'm in Ramstein, I arrived here August of '12. The mark is long since gone and left us with this terrible exchange rate with the Euro. I'm a 2S071, so supply or material management. I'm looking into cross-training into avionics, my electronics score is high enough.
Thanks for the welcomes as well! I'm proud to serve and hope they keep me on board. Any advise for me as someone just starting out? My dad is sending me sample blades and soaps, just curious what I should really keep an eye out for.
to TSD "Breathoffire".....Thank you for your service...I hope you enjoy it here.. First off uncross your fingers that will make it easier to whip up your lather and use your razor.. Time,Technique,Practice and Patience will get you to the "BEST" shaves of your life...
Breathoffire, thank you fro your service to our country. Since you are new to the Double Edge world, here is the advice I received when I started with a DE and so I freely give it to new users. The most important things in shaving are, your skin and technique. All other things fall in line behind those two things and to support them. Since the skin is a given fixed item, the next major item is technique. It is called THE 30 DAY RULE. THE 30 DAY RULE is as follows: Find a razor, then a blade that will not cause issues with your skin (that may take a few different blades in a sampler pack to find a suitable choice or it maybe the first out of the gate) and select a soap or cream that is easy to generate good lather. Once you find those, and it may take a couple of weeks to find this combination, order a quantity of that blade enough for 30 days, and then spend 30 days using nothing else until you build up your technique. (Note that only one brand blade is used for 30 days after each blade in the sampler pack is tested to make the decision on the blade brand to use for 30 days.) The 30 day clock starts when you have the right blade for you. After 30 days, change one and only one variable and work for another week then change another after another week. At that point you should be able to make better decisions because your technique is now in place. This will help you to avoid buying too much gear and stuff too soon without having the technique down to enjoy it all. This really does work. Oh and one more thing ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Please do yourself a favor since Uncle Sam sent you there on his dime, and is paying you to play there... Get out and see some stuff! I knew way to many folks who locked themselves onto the base, afraid to get out and experience Germany. They have some of the best rail systems in the world. Make sure to see what MWR has to offer in the way of tours. I would highly recommend a Rhein River cruise, specifically the Rhein A-Flame. Cool! Just found this ---> *click* right there at Ramstein! Google is a wonderful thing
Hi there thank you for your service. Welcome to the Den. Your one stop shop for all your shaving needs.
Welcome, nice to have you here. One regret I have about my service is going National Guard. You have my envy for getting sent to Germany.
