I was born in 1981 so a birth year razor for me is our of the question. Someone suggested that I look for my father's. I'm a good son so I had no idea what year he was born. :) I asked him today and it's 1958 and January! That makes him a D1 which is the Tv special! Very excited! Now off to hunt!

They made SS black handle at 1981. Only it is knurled rather than lined. And theyre rarer. Now for me at 1991 that is impossible. Not that i care though. As long as its pretty and it works and i got it for a good price.

Another question, I really wanted a D1 tv special but am having a hard time finding one in good condition. I found a sweet 1958 BRITISH TV special. This is my fathers birth year and he's not british. Would that be weird?

I've finally got my birth year razor on the way, the '47 Super Speed. I paid a price, but I think I will be very happy with it.

Picked up my birth year/month super speed 1952 x1 black tip, on the last day of 2013, from the US, it arrived 20/02/2014. It's been a hell of a wait but I'm really please with it. And next up a black beauty. Anyone got one in good nick and at a reasonable price?

I had my 'birth-year' razor for a short while, but sold it off in one of my den purges. It was a nice razor.

Birth year razor is just another excuse to justify RAD and I love it ... well done Sir.

I was born in 1957 C-1 so I wonder what Mr Gillette made in the first quarter of that year? A Superspeed ! Love it, want one ... must get one soon :)

Lucky I wasn't born in '58 as that was the year of the more appropriate "Psycho" Tech.

There is also the Toggle but they tend to go for silly money.

I've just started looking for my birth year razor. hoping to find a 1972 Q4 Black Beauty Super Adjustable or Fat Boy. Unfortunately each one I've located so far is way out of my budget or is in a poor state of repair. Can anyone suggest sources other than EBay, Etsy, and Craigslist?

Try antique stores/malls, flea markets, and "junk" stores.

I found an older type Black Beauty at a flea market in Roanoke, Virginia for $3 and a newer type (knurled handle) at a junk store in Knoxville, Tennessee for $10.

They are out there, and there are some good deals if you are willing to look. For me, the hunt is half the fun.

Being born in 1955 I have to agree with "CyanideMetal" you suck of course he sucks also..:happy097: 1958 was also the first year the FatBoy adjustable was made and Gillette Tech's were still being made so you have some options to choose from....:)

also 1958 gives you an excuse to break the bank and score a Gillette Toggle....Nothing weird about it....when I find a razor I want I've rationalized it in much more abstract ways than this....lol....

What is a Toggle worth now maybe $250 +++ depending on condition and all that. I would rather have a Superspeed and get it re-chromed. Not that I would say no to a toggle of a nice fat handled gold Tech or actually almost anything pretty and shiny made that year.
