SOTD Feb 18 -- Blade safari day 16

    Prep: Proraso pre-shave, hot shower
Razor: WW2 Gillette Khaki with ball end handle
    Blade: Israel Personna/Crystal (day 4)
    Brush: Vie-Long
    Soap: Proraso White
    Passes: 2 (WTG, XTG)
    Post: Nivea Men cool kick

I haven't gotten the best shaves out of the crystal blade. After skipping yesterday's shave I felt I needed all the help I could get today so I broke out the Proraso pre-shave. Man that stuff has a strong scent...good thing I enjoy it.

Two passes got me not a bad shave, with none of the irritation and razor burn from my last shave, but I did still get a nick or two on the first pass. Which is a shame because I got an awesome lather from the Proraso white today. Had the shave gone better I would still be going just so I wouldn't waist the lather!

Post shave any a return if the Nivea Men cool kick AS balm. The sting wasn't as intense as the alum, but it was still there.

I don't expect the Israeli Personna/Crystal will see use in my Tech again...

    Thayers Cucumber WH
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Kiss My Face Cool Mint is so refreshing. It face lathered richly with the Parker black badger brush. Two passes and touch ups on the neck with the Gillette Fat-handled tech and Gillette 7 O'Clock blade left me near BBS. After a cold water rinse, Thayers Cucumber WH, and Aqua Velva Ice Blue, I am clean, smooth, and refreshed. Nice...

2/18/2014 Show Us Your Mug Week

Prep: Hot shower with Shea Moisture Shave face scrub and wash, home made PSO
Razor: Valet Autostrop, Barbers Favorite straight razor
Blade: modified GEM PTFE coated SE (4)
Brush: Col Conk Pure Badger 20mm knot
    Soap: Maca Root shave cream
    After: Home made ASB
After Shave: Aqua Velva Musk after shave cologne

Everything came together today for a Darn Fine Shave +. The Maca Root shave cream exploded into a thick lather in the scuttle this morning. I had one weeper on my chin that sealed up with the cold water rinse. My wife even said that the after shave smelled good, another bonus.

    Have a blessed day!

    Yesterday's shave.

Prep: hot shower, Cremo Face Wash, TBS Maca Root Scrub.
    Brush: Turkish #6.
    Razor: Schick Krona.
    Blade: Personna Med Prep.
    Soap: Stirling Glacial.
Post: cold water rinse, Barbon AS.

It was 80 degrees here in East Texas. The Glacial soap lathered up a whole lot better than Yeti Snot. It lost some of its menthol power, but the shave was still cold and too much for someone who doesn't enjoy menthol. I also got a DFS with no nicks or irritation.

Pre Shave Oil: Homemade TSD Recipe
    Soap: Proraso Green
    Brush: Escali Badger
Razor: 67 Gillette Slim Adjustable (set to 5)

    TUESDAY
    Straight Razor Day#2

Having brought back to life an old straight razor for use yesterday, for this morning's shave I used a straight razor that needed some 'fine-tuning' of the edge.
So after taking similar honing steps with the Norton 4k/8k stone & polishing (12k), I put the Herskovitz to the test this morning after a good stropping.
Results? A big improvement in the comfort of this razor. No tugging nor resistance. Smoooooooth! DFS+! :)
    Have a great Tuesday, all!

Decided to break out the 16 today. Such a gorgeous razor and performs flawlessly. I haven't used a Cella in a while so decided on that. Very glad! Love the smell and performance. Very nice two pass shave!

    Three pass BBS
This was a really nice shave. I took the advice of friends and went back to three passes, my reward is a very smooth face with no weepers or burn. I took it easy with the old type head and let its efficiency do the work. My Tabac has still never let me down - I don't remember a bad shave using this excellent soap. The butter balm makes the ATG pass smooth and easy, and Krampert's tops it off and mixes well with the coconut bay scent of the balm. I may have to get some coconut bay soap at some point.
Prep: face wash with Shea Moisture TBS
    Soap: Tabac!
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: Frankenrazor (Old Maggard Type)
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock sharp edge yellow
    Synergy Coconut Bay Butter Balm

    Tyr's Day:

Prep: Hot Shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Van Der Ginger's frankensoap
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (4, 5)
Post: Cold water splash, Dickinson's WH, Aqua Velva Ice Blue

The extra prep with the Neutrogena helped, but I've clearly become spoiled by the use of a decent preshave balm. This morning's shave produced DFS results in two passes, but it's simply not as smooth a glide as I've gotten used to, even with the milder razor and a slightly broken-in blade. I guess I'll have to be strong until the TSD preshave balm I ordered is ready and shipped. Following the AV Ice Blue with a 3 mile hike in below freezing temperatures was definitely a frigid-face experience.

    Razor: Blue Tip
    Blade: Big Ben
Brush: Semogue 2011 Finest Bristle 1
    Soap: L'occtane Cade
Post: Thayer's and Clinique M gel
    AS: Floid Blue

First shave with a nice boar. I used the Cade because it is the hardest soap I have in my rotation. The boar seem to make better lather than when I use my badgers.

I have had the Blue Tip for over a year but this was my first shave with it. I figured it was to mild to give me a good shave so I never used it. But after my usual three pass with touch up had a very close shave. I think this little fellow is going to be a good friend.

Thanks to JRod for making me think of my Blue Tip.
