Out of curiosity, let's say there was a product (pill, cream, etc..) that was perfectly safe to use that would completely stop beard growth for a week at a time. As long as you keep using the product you would never have to shave, but whisker growth would resume as normal when you stop using it. Would you do it? What about a product that you take once and have permanent stoppage of beard growth? You would never have to shave again, but you would also never be able to have a mustache or beard again.
Good question. I assume it would be good for military guys like myself, especially in the field. But I wouldn't use it because when I get out next yeard, I want to experiment with different facial hair styles. A temporary stoppage would be ok, but permanent is a no go.
There's currently a product on the market called Bluebeard's Revenge that claims with continual use, it will retard the growth of the beard.
If men use excessive estrogen therapy, and diminish their own testosterone levels, this will inhibit facial hair growth. Extreme, surely—but you'd certainly find the necessity to shave greatly diminished—which I would find greatly discouraging. The other side effects of this therapy (depression, breast development and a fondness for Michael Bolton songs) make it somewhat unappealing to consider.
Let's assume this product would have no other physical or psychological effects. I'm just wondering how many men would give up the shaving experience if they could.
Don't know if you are aware but Mantic did a test of the product and actually said it worked in slowing down beard growth.
Had you asked me this question 3+ years ago my answer at least to the temporary beard reduction part would have been "ABSOLUTELY" YES YES YES!! That was when I was using the Trac2 and canned goo and "HATED" shaving so much I could cry!!! Now I wouldn't touch the stuff and for the same reason I don't use BlueBeards Revenge....Shaving is now a joyful pastime, the last thing I'd want to do is stop or deminish my beard growth...Also I wear a mustache and soul patch and wouldn't want to lose them...
No for me, as shaving is so easy now and comes with a sort of decadence, lathering with nice smelling soaps and a badger brush. Really nice smelling after shaves are a nice touch as well.
As I expected not many takers in a shaving forum. Lol. I wonder how many would be willing among the cartridge and goo crowd?
I enjoy shaving too much to use such a product. You might indeed find more takers in a cartridge group!
Kinda like asking, "If they made a pill that would make you stop drinking, would you take it?" on a home brewing forum!
I'd take it in a heartbeat! My shaves now a soooo much better than when I used cartridges. I seldom get irritation or nicks and I love the products that go along with it. Even so, I would love to not have to shave. I still don't necessarily enjoy that actual act of drawing the razor across my face. I do enjoy whipping up a nice lather, breathing in the scent of the shaving cream, and brushing it on. I love the different aftershaves and colognes. Even if I took a pill that allowed me to not have to shave, I could still brush lather on my face and then rinse it off. I could still use aftershaves and colognes. Besides, if I decided that I wanted to shave, all I would have to do is stop taking the pill. Best of both worlds if you ask me.
I would take a harmless product to stop hair growth temporarily, definitely. I would not if it were permanent.
I'd snatch it up as soon as it hit the market. And then have a huge blowout sale on all of the razors, blades, brushes and soaps I have accumulated!
If I had never discovered wet shaving I'd say yes!! Anything to keep from hurting my face with carts and throwing away cans emptied of their gels and unrecyclable blades. Now? I live that I get to shave.
