No it's carbon steel. I only get one shave. I could get another shave out of it but it's not as good and I don't want to bother oiling it and drying it. Still works out to $0.12 a blade. I prefer it to the GEM stainless steel which lasts me 8 shaves at the cost of $0.03 a shave but YMMV.
Tom, thanks for the awesome ads! (It's amazing to see the old ads and that they focused on features and quality (and a nice slogan or jingle). Not so much on celebrity endorsement or half dressed models).
ASR had some great ads, here's a couple of my favorites. Look at the guys eyes in the first one. Can you say double entendre?
Hmmm... I don't ever remember hearing about The Falcon program on Mutual (or any other network). Off to google....
Wow!...I love those ads Tom....Now today it will be impossible for me to use any other razor than a Micromatic... And man, that first one made me laugh out loud! And what a dish!! Actually both the chick and the razor...lol! And thanks for clearing up the whole plating issue...Great ads and posting my man! I know I learned something today... But then, thats why you are my SE Mentor...
To RMcintyre - if you'll dry off the carbon steel SE blades after using them, you can get a few shaves before they start rusting, but not many... that's why I prefer to get the stainless ones... again, just a matter of opinion.
Yep.....I usually; after rinsing, dry with a towel, hand strop maybe 3x's on each side, and then apply a drop of baby oil on each side of the blade...Using this routine I usually get 3 great shaves before noticeable edge loss.. I get around 7 great shaves with the Stainless Coated, but I do love the 3 shaves I get with the Carbons though....Something about how my skin feels afterward...Both are great, but I tend to save the Carbons for when I really want to spoil myself...
Hey Guys......THE EVER-READY 1914 LITTLE LATHER CATCHER'S CENTENNIAL B-DAY IS MARCH 24th I'm probably going to shave with mine every day this month...a labor of love...lol! So cool, I've noticed a few people getting ER'14's... Such an exceptional razor...I'm glad to see more cat's gettin hip to them...
I'll definitely shave with my '14 on the 24th, and several shaves ahead of that this month. I started February with no SEs and now I have four good ones and a busted OCMM. I'll post a photo here once I do a little more polishing. Still getting the hang of shaving with them but feel like I turned a corner on it this week.
I will stay away from looking at auctions for 1914's until this month is over....I get a sense they will be a tad higher right now
Used my new Gem 1912 for the second time this evening. Probably the best shave I've had since I began wet shaving. After a WTG and XTG pass had BBS on my cheeks and DFS on the neck. My chin, which is a problem area was no match for this baby. After an ATG pass, BBS all over. I think I like this! Got my blades from CVS and they have performed very well for me
