Saturday: hot shower w/Wm Neumann Lavender bar soap Taconic unscented PSO Robeson straight 2 passes Semogue Owners Club badger D R Harris Windsor cream in a warm mug Thayer's unscented with aloe alum (yep, cut myself) Florida Water cologne Thought at one point during this morning's shave that I was finally starting to get the hang of shaving with a straight but by the time I finished I was reminded once again of the fact that I'm still very much in elementary school and a long ways from graduation. What's interesting to me is how I can end up with irritation and redness on my neck but still have stubble. Typically with a DE I get irritation and redness by doing extra passes after all of the stubble has been removed. Anyhow, there's always another day, another shave and another opportunity for more practice. Lots of great products today and even if I'm not smooth I sure smell great.

Conk Bay Rum Shave Soap lathered great with the Semogue 1305 boar brush. I put a new Shark Super Stainless blade in my Gillette Super Speed and made two passes and touch ups on my neck. This resulted in a near BBS shave. After a cold water rinse, I followed up with Thayers Cucumber WH and Pinaud Clubman After Shave. I'm looking sharp, feeling sharp, and I BE SHARP. Nice...

Frosty Shave Great shave today. I upped the chill by using mentholated bath soap, so the shower was warm, but also invigorating. As I lathered up the Frost Byte, the cold got pretty intense, but the lather did its job, as did the brush and razor. The Krampert's really amped the chill at the end, but in a pleasant way. The shavecraft 101, for me, is a good combination of smooth and effective. The shave was very comfortable, and produced BBS cheeks and DFS neck with no weepers. A loose grip on the handle was the key for me to figure out this razor, reminding me to use no pressure. It has worked well with both Astra SP and Gillette Yellow blades, though the yellows last longer. Shave of the day for Saturday March 1, 2014. ~ Ever Ready single edge safety razor. Patented March 24, 1914. ~ Treet Super blade. ~ Omega boar bristle. ~ Stirling shave soap, Black Cumin and Orange. ~ Clinique moisturizer followed by my hand crafted grapefruit after shave. My intention is to shave with this beauty for the entire month of March to celebrate it's one-hundred year patented date. I'm not sure that I will make that happen but, I can do at least a few times a week. This razor is one of the easiest to use IMO and pairs nicely with the Treet. Treet is my SE preference in blade but I will use a GEM Stainless Steel on occasion. The well broken in Omega is perfect for face lathering the Stirling, nice and soft. The Stirling soap has stayed well hydrated from the last several uses since I keep it sealed up pretty tight. I made a little more wet lather than I usually do since I haven't used the SE in a little while. At least for me, a thinner lather works better for straights and sometimes an SE. Not super thin mind you, just a little more wet. What can I say about my after shave but that I love it! No fake scent here, just the real deal grapefruit. The next time I use it, I am going to try it without the Clinique since I feel I have enough glycerin and jojoba as well as witch hazel in it to work alone. I never shoot for BBS only DFS. For me BBS is just a little too close for my preference. With that said, near BBS or BBS sometimes just comes together and happens. And when it does, it's perfect! This was near BBS with very little effort, two passes in fact WTG/ATG. A five on the 1-6 GF approved smootheness scale (GASS? lol).
March 1, 2014 Prep: Lather, hot towel, PSO, hot towel Lather: Stirling Coniferous Brush: Vie-Long 13061 Razor: Merkur 34HD Blade: Gillette Super Thin (1) Post: Warm rinse, cold rinse and Captain's Choice Bay Rum I planned on using my Tech today, but I just keep grabbing the Merkur. New applications of old technology and I guess I like it better. I enjoy the weight and finish and the Merkur gives me really good audible feedback. I did a good face lather with the Vie-Long today. The brush is getting softer with each use and it feels good on my face and in my hand. Finished the 3rd pass with touchups on the difficult spots with lather squeezed into my hand. Wife says I smell good and look better! I like that.
You had to ask, lol. Well, to be honest with you it might move a lot of soaps to the back of the bus. This is a very good soap, IMO and the best of my recent purchases. I have some old standbys that are solid favorites and I can't say that any of those are really superior to Tiki. My opinion may change with time as to what is my "favorite" but this is a rock solid performer. I would (just my opinion and I'm not going waste anytime defending it) put this soap ahead of Mike's, LPL, Synergy and Stirling and I have very high regards for those.

SOTD March 1 -- Blade safari day 26 Prep: hot towel Razor: WW2 Gillette Khaki with ball end handle Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Black (day 2) Brush: Vie-Long Soap: Col. Conk lime Passes: 2 (WTG, XTG) Post: Alum, 444 Another close, smooth shave from the 7 O'clock Black. Maybe too close... turns out a nicked a mole on my face yesterday. I didn't go over the mole today, but I did manage to get some exfoliation with my shave. The alum didn't help much with it, but the 444 did once my eyes started watering.
