Just to expand a bit on "Weeper Warrior's" description, if you ever see an Aristocrat where both handle bands are knurled "grab it quick and hold on to it" it's not an Aristocrat it's a "Diplomat"(mid 50's) looks like the Aristocrat, except for the bands, shaves just as well, but it's rarer....
So what model is this? An adjustable Aristocrat I guess. What would a fair price be for it in a very clean original box?
Its a 1961-1968 aristocrat which is really just a slim adjustable that is gold plated (during these years). Its the last all metal gold plated razor ever made by gillette. That sounds all good and all but they are the least valuable of all the aristocrats. Some dont even consider them aristocrats. The last real Aristocrats were made in 1951. This was a reintroduction that ran from 1961-1968. I have no idea what a fair price is - that depends on the individual I suppose. ( most of above from razor archive)
Yeah I found a site yesterday that has a bunch of info on the differences in Aristocrat models and how to tell what is what. Here is the site, http://www.razorarchive.com/the-history-and-evolution-of-the-us-gillette-aristocrat and the info and pics are pretty great.
Nice SCORE!!!! It's a gold plated Slim also sometimes called an adjustable Aristocrat, but it's a Slim...Definately nice having the case with it..Check ebay to get an idea of prices...
No, no not mine. It's selling over at some online auction site at around $65 or so. I have enough DE razors for now myself
You did okay. I bought a similar one in similar condition for $28 in the wild but then again I've bought fatboys for $3. I think you could get your money back
You got a great deal on an earlier 1940's Aristocrat with the case, and blade case in good condition. These are more aggressive than the SS's of the same era IMHO
So the Aristocrat arrived today and I got it cleaned up a bit. I will clean it a little better tonight with some Scrubbing Bubbles. I'm really happy with it. There is some plating loss, but overall it's straight and in really good condition. For $47 I'm more than excited!
Niiiiiiiiice! The handle on mine is almost all silver, there is so much plate loss! Still gives a great shave.
