Razor: Barbasol Floating Head Blade: Personna Lab Brush: BF Greenie Stick: MB Oatmeal Stout Post: Thayer's & M Gel-Lotion AS: Floid Blue Only one shave with the Barbasol. I have read how aggressive this razor is and as I don't usually care for aggressive razors. I was hoping to hate the shave and sell this bad boy because I got it a lot cheaper than they have been going for. Figured I would make myself a nice profit to buy more shaving fun. Then I shaved with it and that has all died, now. The shave was really great. The razor shaves as aggressively as the 2011 R41 but gave me none of the R41 harshness. Unlike the R41 at no point did I think I were on the edge and the blade was about to bite me. Now their was plenty of blade feel during the shave. But after the shave my skin was not screaming like I used gasoline for after shave. Which is pretty close it the effect I receive if I were to try a 3 pass and 2 touch up pass shave with the R41. I was chasing the BBS but still no sign of irritation. The whiskers worst enemy but the skins best friend. A perplexing little razor the Barbasol. Don't forget YMMV.
3/10/14 Warm shower Nivea menthol face wash Merkur Progress (4-2) Rapira (1) Semogue 750 Tiki Set Sail Tallow Cold rinse Alum Cold rinse Dickinson WH Clubman VI Bay Rum Nivea Cool Kick 1st time shaving with Tiki. Wasn't the greatest lather, I'm sure it was operator error. I'll go at it again tomorrow. If mint is your scent, this soap is for you! I haven't used Rapira Super Stainless in a long time, it worked great!
Now I guess I'm going to have to track down on of those bad boy barbasols…maybe I'll get lucky &stumble across one in an antique store for $10…...
You are the first to ask! Nice and chilly, but not excessive! Gets cooler on second pass. It is not as purchased. Williams did sell a Menthol for years but this is not that one. This is my own concoction. I ground up two pucks of Vintage Williams and added 5 drops of lanolin, 15 drops of glycerin, and about 1/3 of a small bag of TSD Menthol Crystals. After some time sitting in the mug with about 1/2 of a cup of very hot water (almost boiling) and with evaporation, the modified soap hardened for use. It makes a rich, moist, creamy, Menthol laden lather, with nice slickness and cushion. Wonderful!
Menthol Monday Everything came together for a great shave. Eye-watering, nose-running, smooth and comfortable, BBS on my cheeks with DFS on my neck. Dad's brush made thick, slick lather in no time... Less airy than my HIS makes. The Shea moisture elixir and Krampert's Frostbite work nicely together to reduce redness and moisturize my face. Prep: warm face wash with Jack Black Soap: Synergy Frost_Byte Brush: Dad's boar Razor: iKon Shavecraft 101 Blade: PolSilver SI (3) AS: Shea Moisture elixir, Krampert's Finest Frostbite
The Frost_Byte is significantly colder than Proraso Green, but I have not tried Yeti Snot or Stirling Glacial, so it's hard for me to compare. HTGAM also has a menthol body soap I enjoy. Very invigorating!
Yeti Snot and Glacial are the two coldest known soaps on Planet Earth. I have them both, but it would be interesting for me to see if I could compare this one.
I wish I could get that soap too. The eucalyptus makes me hesitate since the eucalyptus in Proraso made me miserable.
Ah...I thought you were vintage Williams Menthol but you worded it Mentholated Vintage Williams. DOH!
Tonight's shave. Prep: hot shower, Cremo Face Wash. Brush: Turkish #6 Brush. Razor: Fatip. Blade: Personna Med Prep. Cream: Gada Cool Mint. Post: cold water rinse, Krampert's Frostbite, Phyto Balm. This was a really refreshing, face freezing shave. The Fatip is a very awesome razor to use. This will let you know if your lather is really good or if it sucks. Luckily, mine was pretty good because I got BBS in two passes with no irritation and one tiny weeper on my chin that went away when I splashed cold water on my face.
