I was duped by the good photographer. I recently purchased a Gillette Blue Tip from the bay. It looked near immaculate. The bidding went accordingly. It was the only super seed I needed to complete my SS collection so I went higher than i normally would and won. I got the razor today. All I can say is man the person did a fantastic job taking pics, hiding the blemishes. It is the same razor as the few visible in pics are there , but there are several that were extremely well hidden by camera angle and lighting. Am I pissed, not really. Disappointed..yes a bit. With some cleaning up and polishing etc it will be a fine example of a blue tip, but it looked like an unpack and put in the rotation/ display and it surely isnt. First time this has happened to me. I may have let my wants outweigh my good judgement.I will stay within my pre set spend limit from now on...regardless.
"What You See Isn't Always What You Get" is a common occurrence on ebay. My having plied the ebay trade for a dozen years or more, I've seen incidences where the photos of items do not reveal the true condition. "Buyer beware!" unless the seller has a reasonable return policy.
I have been very fortunate on eBay. I set limits and expectations. So far I have not been disappointed.
I have been really lucky on e bay, had no problems, so far. But I know a few people that have had major problems, but that is the minority of cases, thank goodness. Glad to hear you have completed your collection.
I bought from a seller who had great pic's. But when it arrived it wasn't the razor pictured. Learn and live.
Note: I'm not affiliated with the seller "Techichi shave." But I've had good luck with him. His razors actually look better in person and are accurately described. Must be some contrast trick to highlight flaws. But be prepared to pay high prices... Part of the reason I don't usually buy from him now that I am more savvy.
Ditto with this seller. I think the chance we all take is when the pictures are blurry, and the description is non existent. Currently, I'm debating to swing on one that looks like it can be cleaned up and be a homerun because the price is right, but it can turn out to be a dud. It can be part of the fun, but also lead to disappointment. Ultimately, I'm in it for the shave experience. Yet when I like how a razor shave, if there is one just like it, but in better condition, there is something in me that ones the nicer one
Heh... You think the double blind anonymity of ebay and TSD IDs allows some of us to remain friends? I don't care about those carpet baggers at the other shave board, but I like you guys. I might have hard feelings knowing one of you sniped my intended acquisition!
