I'm in. I got my first straight less than a month ago. At this point, only my cheeks have seen the straight edge.

    Awesome PIF!
I'm not in because I am no where near ready for a SR, so this should go to one who is ready for the challenge.

You have just under a week, so I'm confident you can hit the quality magic 50 number….:happy088:

Wow! That's great. I am in.

What is the barber's notch for?

There is always discussion and theories about the purpose of and the rational behind the barber's notch (or more accurately called the "Sheffield Notch,""hollow point" or "hollow Notch") in the nose of a straight razor. Some theories make sense, others not so much.
I've seen where the purpose behind the notch was to:
    • make it easier for the barber to navigate the razor in tight spaces on a client's face
    • Part of the manufacturing process to hold the blade in place
    • To avoid moles or other facial 'protrusions' while shaving

All makes for good discussion, but I've never seen anything definitive.

blanka I will not eat my shaving products. Promise.

What a nice PIF! I'm already waiting for my very first straight to return to me in the mail from Whipped Dog, so I'm not in. But well done!

Not in, but what a fantastic offer Kevin!

Good luck to everybody and remember:

Shaving with a straight always takes longer than with a DE. NEVER try to shave with a straight if you are in a hurry.
When it's open, always handle the razor by holding the blade. (never by the scales)
DON'T walk about with an opened razor. If you are holding an opened razor and need to move, close it first.
If you drop it, let it go! DON'T try to catch it. (I wear a pair of leather house shoes when straight razor shaving.)
ALWAYS store the razor in a SAFE & secure place. It's every bit as dangerous as a firearm. Imagine a child getting hold of it.

I just have a quick question before I decide if I'm in or not. Does this come with some alum or a styptic pencil or some band aids or even a needle and thread?

Nah, not necessary! See here that even Conan O'Brien has gotten on the straight razor bandwagon! ;)

I'd love to be considered to compete in this PIF! I've been on the lookout for a decent used straight (I just can't make the leap for a new one not knowing if I'm going to like it or not), but haven't found one that looks "recoverable" and worth the investment. Anyway, thanks for offering a great "manly PIF" and good luck to everyone.
