I just had the best shave of my life with this beauty of a razor. I borrowed it from a co-worker who bought it off Garry's Sample Shop Newbie Kit. I stuck a new Gillette Silver Blue in it and gave it a whirl. Best 3 pass shave I could have imagined. No tug, no pull, no resistance, barely even felt this blade against my face. It must have just set the blade at the perfect angle for my face. Now I'm curious to know what type of Gillette this is. I can't find a date code on it and I need some help from the experts.

    Easy peasy... gold ball-end Tech.

Can't help you with the date tho, except that no date code = pre-1951.

X-2 means second quarter of 1952. Techs are my favorite vintage razor.

I believe Patrick was agreeing with the above statement, not declaring a date code. :p

Nice razor, by the way. :happy088:

The Gillette Tech series were some of the "BEST" 3 piece razors ever made I.M.O....:) You should try a "Fat Handle Tech" next, same head just a fatter handle..They are my favorites...:happy088:

Yes, the Fat Handle was the pinnacle of Gillette razors!

Hunting for razors is hard work. The bay is riddled with them but the prices they ask for or get up to in the bids are ridiculous. I'll keep an eye out for a fat handle though.

I'll cosign for the Fat Handle Techs. My first DE Razor was a prewar tech.

Yea looking for a decent razor in good condition, for a fair price on the bay ain't exactly easy...:) But when you find a razor you love at the right price it makes all the effort worth while...:happy088: "GOOD LUCK" on your hunt!!

I got lucky in that I found a fat handle tech (38-45) and a Y3 (my birth year) ball handle tech in the wild. The only vintage techs I have. I also won a PIF on a Gillette LC new in mint condition. It is making its way to me as I type. Will post photos when it arrives.

An open comb is my go to razor, but both techs give excellent shaves.
