    Tech Week - 3/25/14

Prep: warm wash with Stirling Scots Pine sheep bath soap
    Lather: Stirling Barbershop
    Brush: Stirling badger
    Razor: Gillette Ball End Tech
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2)
Post: cold water rinse and Captain's Choice Lime
    Coffee: Folgers Classic

Took plenty of time to face lather with the Stirling. Had to reload brush for 3rd pass. Not sure if it is my technique or the brush. I seem to be preferring my Vie-Long horse hair brush to this badger.

finish with cold water rinse for a CCS!

Cella in tub face lathered with TGN Pure Badger in Ever-Ready handle
Birth quarter (D-1) Red Tip with Personna Lab blade (1)
3 passes, cold water splash and finish with Nivea Energy

I love the sweet almondy scent of the Cella in a tub. The piece I got from a block sits in an open Old Spice mug, and the scent is much more subdued when lathered.

Prep: Hot shower. Nivea face menthol face wash
    Razor: Gem MMOC
    Blade: Gem Stainless Steel (1)
    Soap: Pre de Provence
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Post: Alum. Dickinson WH
    Aftershave: Clubman Original
After using PdP you almost need to boil your razor to get it clean! It wasn't slick at all! My shave today was rather bad!
    Go out and get it!
  7. Yeah I thought it was a terrible soap too... Gave me the worst nick I've eve experienced with any razor (a MMOC) But my main reason for posting is noticing the (1) besides the GEM blade when yesterday I saw a (3) there. This is not a DE blade. I don't know if it is the more efficient angle that cuts and not scrapes or the thicker blade (three times as much steel according to a GEM ad) but these blades last and last. I get 8 shaves out of one. Some even get 14+ shaves out of them.

  8. I took it out after my first pass and put a fresh one in. The PdP had me so flustered. I'm sure the blade is still sharp. I'll keep for when this one dies out.
Edit: The Gem MMOC or OCMM is a GREAT razor. My shaves are as close as they can get.

Another that I purchased shave ready. Don't get me wrong I like clear scales but I like my razors, especially the old ones with scales made from original materials. I also shed a bit of a tear when I realized that the original etching was almost polished off of the blade. I would have rather had a bit of pitting and the etch.

Don't get me wrong though it's a great shaver. I'll be lovingly using this one for years to come. Maybe with just a change of scales though. ;)

Preshave - Trumpers Sandalwood skin food
Proraso Sandalwood soap face lathered with TGN Pure Boar Badger in Ever-Ready handle
Red Tip with Personna Lab (2)
3 passes, cold water rinse and finish with Family Dollar Spice

My next brush in rotation was a boar, but I forgot to soak it while I showered so I used the badger brush from yesterday again. I've only used the skin food as a pre-shave a couple of times but I like it, I'll have to consider buying a bottle. The Family Dollar Spice is the best $2 aftershave I have (and it's the only $2 aftershave I've found)

  16. image.jpg Excellent shave
Today I used my newly acquired Synergy Coconut Bay Rum soap, and it did not disappoint. It has the usual HTGAM performance combined with a unique take on bay rum. As the name says, it has coconut, but also notes of lime. It smells sweet but not too much, and it pairs well with Krampert's Bay Rum.

My result was a comfortable BBS on my face and DFS on my neck. I think the key for my neck is two passes, first generally with the grain, then generally against. A few touch ups on my usual tough patches and I'm good to go. If I do three complete passes, my neck would be smoother, but also prone to weepers and burn. On my cheeks, the best XTG is different on each. On the right I go ear to chin, and on the left chin to ear for best results.

    Prep: Shea Moisture TBS
    Soap: Synergy Coconut Bay
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: iKon ShaveCraft 101
    Blade: Gillette SE Yellow (4)
    AS: Krampert's Finest Bay Rum

    Parker Black Badger

    Voskhod Teflon Coated (2)
    CWR
    Thayers Cucumber WH
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

The Kiss my Face Cool Mint face lathered well with the Parker black badger brush. It took two passes and some clean up on the neck with the '62 Gillette Slim and a Voskhod Teflon Coated blade to produce a near BBS shave. I finished off with a cold water rinse followed by Thayers Cucumber WH and Aqua Velva Ice Blue after shave.

Magnificent is the word to describe this shave - so smooth and frigidly-comfortable. The Ingram Blue cream from Egypt has a stronger menthol kick than the British version with better lather and it holds its consistency, so it doesn't separate. The Visal gel and the Rubby Dubby Doo are so cold that they can make your eyes tear! ;) :D
