Ive made my first brush about a month ago and couldnt find any real dos and donts when lathering. Needless to say pushing down and twisting is brush death my poor creation now has a hole in it
@Hersh- soak the brush and the soap and with gently movings everything will be fine No need for a push, force has nothing to do in traditional shaving.
Well now that you know you shouldn't be over zealous when lathering your brush,a light touch is much better in both lathering and shaving.... While it may no longer look as pretty does the brush still lather well for you? Thats whats really important.... On the bright side you now however have an excuse to get another brush.. Might I suggest a #6 horse(?) hair brush from bestshave...Mine works well,it has soft tips with good backbone, has lasted for over 2 years of daily use(I bowl lather) and only cost $5 shipped... By the way the handle looks very nice, the brush looks like it came out well at any rate.... [Edit] Another advantage about the #6 "at least for you with your ability" is the wooden handle while not near the quality of the cypress handles you make can be removed and the knot put into one of your handles...When I first got mine a friend removed the original wooden handle and put my #6 knot into a resin handle he made....
