    Frey's Day:

Prep: Hot compress, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: RazoRock Cumba Cheech
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (4)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (8, 9)
Post: Cold water rinse x2, Dickinson's WH, RazoRock Cumba Cheech ASB
Cologne: The Third Man by Caron

I actively held the hot washcloth to my face this morning for several minutes, hoping that would be sufficient for softening the whiskers and opening the pores; in my case, it wasn't. The shave was decent, with DFS results, but not nearly as effortless as I've come to expect. The lather was great, the blade - while wearing some - isn't on its last leg, but my stubble really does better when prepped with a hot shower before the shave.

    3/28/2014 Tech Week

Prep: Hot shower with L'Oreal Men Expert Facial Wash, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette Ball End Tech, CMON Filarmonica Double Temple straight razor
Blade: Pol Silver Super Iridium (7)
Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair 23mm knot
    Soap: Yeti Snot
    After: Home made ASB
After Shave: Stetson Cooling Moisture after shave

A 2 pass Darn Fine Shave this morning. This was my first time using the Yeti Snot soap that I received from a PIF. I grated the sample block into a ziploc bowl last night. The aroma is heavy of Menthol, Peppermint and Mint. I could feel the Menthol tingling on my fingers as I was grating the soap into the bowl. I soaked the brush while in the shower this morning. I loaded the brush heavily with soap and moved on to whip up a nice lather. The soap is a little thirsty. I could feel the cooling effect almost as soon as the lather touched my face. It started out decent and grew in intensity as the first pass progressed. By the time I got to my chin, the cooling effect was almost painful. It made my face feel like I was riding a motorcycle at 50 mph in 35 degree weather with nothing covering my face. With the second pass the cooling effect leveled off at just below the painful level and my chin was almost numb. I was still feeling the cooling effect from the Yeti Snot soap 15 minutes after the shave was over. The lather was good, slick and provided nice skin protection. This soap is easily the coldest soap that I have tried to date.

    Have a blessed day!

Hope it works. I really haven't heard too much good about Classic's soap.

The Yeti Snot soap is indeed thirsty. The cooling effect is so powerful that by the second pass you feel that someone is holding an ice bucket against your face, and the menthol vapours make your eyes tear. As I said - the only other soap which has that effect on me is Stirling Glacial.

    Friday

    Prep: CeraVe cleanser
    Soap: Razorock Boston Tea Party
Brush: Burma Shave with TGN synthetic knot
    Razor: Gillette fat-handled Tech
    Blade: Astra SP
    After: Cold rinse, CeraVe lotion

Good shave. In contrast to my normal routine of unscented soaps, the Razorock soap today has a gentle sweet tea fragrance. It doesn't bother my face if I only use it occasionally. Razorock lathers very well. I like the looks of my Burma Shave handled brush, but the 21mm synthetic knot is a little too small for my taste. It feels a little scrubby when I face lather.

That's a beautiful razor. Is it replated?

I don't think so. I bought it off eBay a couple of years ago for a modest price. It appears to be just in pristine condition. The plating has started to show signs of wear just from my use in rotation with other razors. I have another fat handled Tech that is clearly replated. It is much shinier and slicker in the hand.

    Couldn't stay away today.
Used the SR for three passes, except for the chin. Getting better and better shaves with the SR.
Used the DE on the chin, working around the nicks from yesterday. DE is good for "surgical strikes", so to speak. I can be more precise and work around things like that with one.

Maiden voyage of the Captain's Choice Lathering Bowl and I have some learning to do. Lightest, driest and least slick lather I have ever made. Did not provide much protection and the shave was not very enjoyable.
