Friday: hot shower w/T&H Trafalgar bar soap Somersets Tough Stubble PSO Maggard MR4 2+ passes Voskhod (2) Tweezerman HIS Deluxe badger D R Harris Windsor cream in a warm bowl Thayers unscented w/aloe D R Harris Windsor AS Fabulous Feel Friday! Couple of new items in the mix so I'm not sure what did the trick but today's shave had an absolutely fabulous feel. Started off with Truefitt & Hill's Trafalgar scent bar soap for the shower which is an excellent soap that always leaves my skin feeling and smelling good. The scent also complements the D R Harris Windsor scent nicely. The first new item was Somersets' Tough Stubble PSO. I didn't compare the ingredients with the regular Somersets but it made my eyes water (which I haven't had happen with any PSO before) so I'm guessing extra menthol. The second new item was the Tweezerman brush which did very well for it's maiden voyage. It's a little stinky of course but it was interesting to note that the Windsor scent blended in such a way that made the stink tolerable. The third new item was the D R Harris Windsor AS. The scent is distinctive yet mild and the feel is absolutely fabulous. I used the same razor/blade combo as Wednesday this week but that shave had my skin feeling hot after the second pass so I quit without even a touch up. After today's first pass and partial rinse I was amazed at the fabulous feel of my face. Half way through the second pass it was going so good I started coaching myself afraid that I would lose focus and fail. "Easy does it, watch your speed, even strokes, nice and smooth, no pressure...don't chase the baby, that's a girl... come to poppa..." And then I was done. A fantastic Friday shave that felt absolutely fabulous and featured a flawless finish.

SOTD 4 MARCH Prep-Wash face with Irish Spring Hot towels Strop-Musicians Friend Razor #1-Boker American Line SS St Louis Razor #2-Lady Gillette Blade-Family Dollar Dorco Suds-C.O. Bigelow Brush-VDH Boar Post-Cold towels British Sterling cologne Excellent shave. Pushed the boundaries a lot today. Two passes with the straight, WTG and around 30 degrees XTG. Two more passes, ATG, XTG under the jaw line and along the neck. This is where I get the most irritation, but also where I have the most trouble getting a close shave. Got fed up with that and decided to be very light with the DE, be meticulous, and make certain I did not pass the razor over bare skin. So, relather as necessary, no "buffing" with the razor. Followed the shave with cold towels. A very smooth, irritation free shave. I doubt I'll make this many passes most days, but the "no pass over bare skin", and the cold towel post shave will become a regular part of my routine.

FRIDAY Late Morning Shave After a long evening at work last night, I got to sleep in this morning! So I took advantage of this leisurely-paced morning and enjoyed a nice straight razor/MdC shave! I find that I am enjoying using a larger blade (this morning's BBB 7/8) more than I thought I would. It takes a bit more practice to navigate the bigger blade around the curves than if I use a standard 4/8 or 5/8. But there's something intrinsically 'old school' about dragging a big ol' blade across the mug that I am learning to appreciate. Have a blessed Friday, everyone!
Prep: Shower Razor: Weishi 9306 Blade: Astra SP Soap: VDH Luxury Brush: VDH Boar Post: Maggard's Alum & Barbasol Pacific Rush A DFS shave. The Weishi is a bit to mild but I highly recommend it for technique practice. It is highly forgiving. I didn't get a thick enough lather with the VDH. It needed a touch more but I didn't feel like it. There was 0 irritation or alum sting. The Barbasol Pacific Rush was GREAT. It was very cooling and refreshing. It was overall a nice shave, the Weishi has returned to rotation, but I could have made it better. The SO loved the AS so much she wants me to wear it everyday.
Thanks Bruce. Excellent two pass shave this morning. Eighth day with the Supermax Sunrise blade and feels just as sharp as day one. Just as sharp as a Feather but holds the edge twice as long. On a side note, looking at trying out a straight razor for the first time and currently bidding on a 5/8 "Our Drummer" but with yellow scales. Hopefully I'm making a smart choice as a beginner. Received a Wostenholm and Son Original pipe razor for my birthday last week and on its way back from having it honed and my strops(practice & bridle) should arrive on Monday.
