After a pleasant week with the in-laws, the last night they were here my father in-law said he had something for me he found a the antique store. all I know is that it is a STAR razor. The internet doesn't seem to have a lot of information on these. Still, I think it is a nice razor.

Very nice. Gentle shave, pretty much like a Gillette Tech. Enjoy!

    HUZZAH!

I really like my Star DE. While it is certainly in the Gillette Tech category of shavers, it has its own little feel.

I got one of my best shaves ever off of my Star DE. Though the Star helped, I think it was probably cosmic alignment.

    Good on yer... and enjoy!

Bought one in the UK recently.
It is called a PAL, has an aluminium handle and baseplate.
I think these are ASR copies of a Gillette Tech.
Shaves like a Tech, but mine when screwed down tightly hardly shaves at all - a bit too gentle.
I have to unscrew it a quarter of a turn, a bit like an adjustable, then it is fine.
    See Badger & Blade - http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/106300-Pal-Razor
Unique headset alignment - now there appears to be a Chinese copy - especially of the alignment - http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/327398-Will-this-quot-Silver-Tone-quot-hurt-me
When adjusted, just like my ball end tech (which is also aluminium) a smooth BBS shave.

Well that certainly explains this morning's shave! I happily returned to my Star, hoping but not expecting a repeat of the Wonder-shave of a couple of weeks ago. Though it was mild, it felt just a little "burny" at the end. I think I was trying to make it shave by applying pressure! :shocked003: Where did THAT come from?:rolleyes005:

(I also lost track of how many shaves I had on the blade I had left in it. <sigh> But that's a new thread I intend to post elsewhere.)

Thanks for the tip on backing off a bit. Awesome! Can't wait to try it again... but with a bit more awareness and discipline!

It seems that many like their Star razor, but why can't I find any information on that brand?

Very nice. I have 2 - one in gold and one in nickel. Great mild shaver, works best for me with a suer sharp blade (ir feather or med prep). Enjoy.

More info from Badger & Blade:-

If you want to see the pictures you will need to be a member of B&B - not too complicated - just supply an email address.

The angle it bends the razor blade is slightly flatter than the Gilletts, but with a tad less of the blade exposed - I think !!
I like it, I got BBS off it quite easily".

My first garage sale razor, I love it. Not my daily shaver but I keep it on the counter to "pick up missed areas" because it's so mild.

Love my Star. Great razor, very much like the FH Tech from UK, but with a slimmer handle with better knurling.

Ditto the love. I think it may be just a smidgie milder than the FH Tech. I plan on slapping a Feather in my Star real soon. :happy088: I'm just glad to have learned here that I need to watch how hard I snug the handle!
